TL on a diet?

I really want to put my TL on a diet... I was out with a couple of buddies last night in some turbo RSX-S, Type R, 350z... sadly enough, I was the slowest one there , I ran this RSX-S that was all motor the car weight about 2325lbs with 1/8 tank of gas, I was doing pretty well until top end kicked in... I know my car had the horsepower, but his car is just so damn light. It really makes me want to put my TL on a diet to see what it could run like, but I don't know what to take out... Any suggestion?

Get some carbon fiber body parts maybe, most people do the hood first. People have said the stock intake has some heft but you already replaced that...

Oh i know... go on a diet yourself, and the total weight of your ride will drop too! hehe

Can't think of anything worth pulling out, besides the spare. Who cares if it's somewhat slower than your buddies' cars? You might be a few cars behind, but you'll be riding in comfy seats, quieter cabin, smoother ride, with surround sound audio, HIDs... you get the picture, no?

I know... After the guy in the RSX beat me, I told him that I was racing him while my ass was warm, and he told me he was cold as hell as he was shifting lol

It's about 4300ft... I can normally beat RSX-S with intake, headers, exhaust, and hondata. This one had intake, exhaust, headers, K-pro, and some cams. But the diffrence was how light he was, it's basically a modded RSX-S motor in a hatchback.

have you considered buying a CAI?.....you wouldn't believe the amount of weight you would loose. The stock intake all together has to weigh close to 20 lbs alone and the CAI weighs a lot less like maybe 7 to 8 lbs, not to mention the few ponies you would gain...just my

u could try the UR Crank Pulley...that retrieves much lost power at the crank aswell as quickens ur RPM's. and taking the spare out definatly helps you...aswell as if your a bigger person than maybe going on a diet urself wouldn't hut :-) j/k

you could get Lighter Wheels...i don't know so much about wheels, im not sure if the Volks you have are lightweight. but thats an option.

if it comes down to extreme things, you can always take out the rear seats (when at the track).

Carbon Fiber parts work as well...but thats for extreme cases.

The 19" TE-37 are very light, I was very suprise of how light they are, I'am taking out the back seat, and will be getting a carb hood for it... Anything I take out, I can always put back later, so it's not like I'm going to leave the TL like that.

Yeah, I don't think you can find lighter rims than volks. They're lighter than stock ones, no?

Dude, forget taking things out... so much hassle.

Get the CT blower.

They are much lighter then stock... Comptech is taking forever for it, I want to do something to make it fast during the mean time.

if u want to go fast....you should do a nitrous system...thats the cheapest way to enhance performance on a large scale being that u have most after market parts that do so.

1) TL makes 270 hp @ 3400 vehicle weight, and RSX makes 205 at like 2700 weight? The TL actually does better in 1/4 magazine testing.

2) But pull the jack and spare, and look for liteweight hood.. That might be 100 lbs right there. Liteiweight wheels are a good idea, reducing rotating weight.

The car doesn't need to lose weight, your car just need to muscle up. Don't waste money on useless CF part that will be expensive and cut back only a few pounds. Just wait for the Comptech Supercharger and you'll be all set.

For every 100lbs you shave off = .1 seconds off 1/4 mile time.

Titanium exhaust
Carbon intake
Carbon hood
Carbon trunk
Extract plastic engine bay panels
Extract floor mats
Extract Rear seats
Replace driver side seat
Extract passenger side seat or replace
Extract rear door panels
Extract passenger side door panel
Extract trunk liner
Lightweight wheels
Lightweight lug nuts

Any of these would help!

I will get a carbon hood, I have to get the carbon trunk... I have some light wheels and lug nuts already... I really want to gut out the whole interior, horsepower matters but if you loose weight on the car it's just as good. I just want to see what the possiblity could be.

I agree with this, because the TL is not a lightweight. At least to me, to pull the seats, take apart the interior, is destroying some of the advantages of a TL. It is not a racecar, its a sport luxury sedan. I'm all for mods, but I don't want to sacrifice my back seat, and great front seats, for a reduction in the 1/4 mile. If I was, I would've bought another car (like a Z).

By the way, if you are really serious about it, look into the Honda Research TL. They took out practically everything from the interior, took out the sunroof (welded metal back in), etc. etc. They lost about 600 lbs. Makes sense for racing, not for the street IMO.

Either way, good luck with it.

Yeah, but why have a Z (or the like) like every racer in the world seems to own. BORRRRRIING! I'm glad Dat has the balls to trick out his car, be unique and take the risk (not choosing the same f*cking car everybody else is using) , and at the same time, get some street cred by improving the performance of this car to make people think twice about the TL.

TL is supposed to be like 3400 stock, so with a 200 lb driver you're talking 3600 raceweight. That is pretty heavy.

If I was going for a number I would take out the jack and spare, do lite wheels, and look into a stock appearing lite hood. Usually stock hoods are heavy but also high quality. My 98 Formula's VFN hood is 24 lbs vs 52 for stock.

special-ed - you need to look around, there are as many 3rd Generation TL as the Zs out there, give a take a few.
I agree with themainevent, a S/C will do just fine, no need to lose weight.

I know the comptech SC will help, but I need to do something to the car that will make me faster then the other guy with a CT SC on is TL.

I'll be getting a G35 next summer and that will be my "drag car" I'm still keeping the TL though, but I just want to see how fast I can go with a luxury car.

oh... dirrr.... my bad Ed.

Lol I didn't even bother to race the other cars... one guy in his RSX-S was pushing 412whp at 13psi, the other was 9psi, and a Type R who has a supercharger, and a twin turbo 350Z... I saw them race with the other cars, so I didn't even bother. I race one of the turbo RSX when they was pushing 7 psi... I did pretty well, he barely pull away when the turbo was spooled.

Everybody there loved the TL though, but I wanted to beat somebody... but sadly ehough I wasnt able to beat anybody out of the group, not even that NA RSX-S

great advice

i have a 06 tl with long ram K&N intake, i also removed my vibration absorber behind the front bumper and did not feel any difference. i also removed much of the panels in the front end. When i have time i will work on the rear end. love the results already, feels more light and nimble. thanks for the info.

Holy thread revival superman.

You need to check out inaccurate's TL Diet thread:
