test pipe

2 primary catalytic converters that are hanging directly off the heads....
and a third (secondary) cat underneath the car.
a test pipe replaces this secondary or the third cat.
in terms of sound and performance, it really DOESN'T do a lot.
I dont know how much it cost, but anything more than $20 and it's a waste of money, cuz it really doesnt do anything.

Installing a test pipe in place of the 3rd cat won't change the sound much. If you are looking to straight pipe it, IE removing all 3 mufflers it will be very loud. My car got raspy when I changed out the stock cats.

Your best bet is to remove the mid muffler and swap out the factory resonator with a Dynomax or Magnaflow. That will give you more sound, no drone, no rasp and be 100% legal. If your local emission testing just checks for codes, you can replace the 3rd cat with a test pipe but odds are you won't really be able to tell. It's pretty small and looks like it probably flows well. Better bet (assuming you want to spend the money) is a long tube J-pipe which will actually add some power and eliminate the 3rd cat. No drone or rasp with that either.
