Supercharger idea
Why hasn't anyone attempted to produce a supercharger that bolts to a modified plenum? It would eliminate that long shaft (waste of power).

some one did put R&D into a turbo charger :hinthint:
it eliminates all the wasted power from a super charger.

I think it was space concerns that made Comptech mount the blower where they did. Most of Comptechs blowers do bolt up the way you described.
