Hey guys, as it says in the title. Im curious to how you guys like it. Three things if possible.

1. What size motor
2. How are you tuning?
3. Factory Injectors or Upgraded?

i think dirty john was suppposed to stroke his 3.2 to a 3.6 with a turbo, but he sold the TL.

nspec_ya4 has a 3.6 stroked CL.

^Did you get dyno'd yet? I know Paul tuned it, but wouldn't you fair better tuning on a dyno? I guess the AFRs don't lie, but I've always thought (w/no experience) that tuning on the dyno was easier.

I have a bolt on J30 that I will be tuning via FIC at some point. I probably won't get around to it before the fall. I want to run at the track before/after tune to see the difference. As well as dyno.

AFR's dont lie, and the car is way faster through all gears/RPMs and the AFR is right where I want it to be under load. Response is great. As for the dyno, not for nothing but most "tuners" who say they are good/know what they are doing are full of shit around here, and to be honest, tuning on the street netted me more realistic and usable power and the best drivability for everyday use, etc. I will likely dyno soon, just to have numbers

Good Point about tuning on the street. Those are realistic conditions to tune under. We're not driving around with the hoods up and a fan blowing into the grill. LOL. I totally agree with you.

1.) 3.6L (stroked J32A3)
2.) J&R stand-alone ECU
3.) Injector Dynamics ID1000, though that's more for the turbo than the extra displacement.

I haven't had a chance to get the car tuned yet, but I'll post initial thoughts once I do.

Just a question for you Bmeyer. With the stand alone you loose other functions correct? ABS, traction control, gauges etc.

1) 3.6 liter stoker motor (Just bought Darton Sleeves too )
2) RDX injectors
3) AEM FIC tuned for closed and open loop
4) Fuel System overhaul (including SS lines, Walbro pump, Custom Fuel rails)
5) P&P everything
6) Twin turbo kit being built now

Need to go to dyno soon, i haven't had time either with school and two jobs im all over the place. Definately gonna dyno before twin turbos are put in.

Tenzing, you're sick. But in a good way Paul's getting the last of the parts I need by end of the week. My J36 build to commence soon I'm going to stick with the AEM FIC for now. Maybe the stand alone when I go m90

1.) How much did it cost you to stroke your J32A3 from a 3.2 to a 3.6? Also what are the gains from it?

To those inquiring about the cost and gains on the stroker build... it's really too tough to give any sort of numbers. First, I built a very specific motor. One built for large amounts of boost and I took additional precautions to ensure that the engine would stand up to the HP. Second, since the motor was built for boost, it's not really even fair to compare N/A numbers.

For those seriously considering the build, you can get prices from the Delray website. You would need a J37 crank, J37 rods and (I believe) RL pistons. Those parts may be $1400-$1600. You'll also be looking at new rod and crank bearings, rings, gasket sets... By the time that you tear it down and upgrade/replace/inspect the necessary parts, you're going to be in the $2300+ range. Certainly more if you have it done by a shop.

That being said, I've heard of a few guys running 3.6L motors with OEM parts that are pushing just over 300 whp.

No worries.

With the 3.6L you can keep your stock bore. For the 3.7L, you'll need to bore out your cylinders and get custom pistons. (I believe, anyway) Most likely somewhere in the $1200 range. I'd probably just stick with the 3.6L unless you're going to go all out and sleeve the block and really push the displacement. I'd still like to see someone hit the 4.0L mark.
