Stock V Short Ram
It snows a lot where i live (Edmonton) so I'm scared to get a AEM V2 cause i dont want to risk hydrolock.
I understand the TL's intake is designed as a cold air from factory, so would getting a short ram be a downgrade?
What're your thoughts? Thanks

Anything from stock is a downgrade.
The factory box has optimum air intake.
The AEM CAI isn't too far off from the stock intake though.
I'd just get the AEM CAI, I had that on my TL-S.. and here in Ottawa it snows ALOT. Never have I had an issue. Also if you're afraid of hydro locking, just get a filter cover.

They absolutely know what they're doing. And that would be juggling a balancing act between making max power while still keeping NVH at a very conservative level. Take out the second part of the equation and they would be able to increase the first part. Obviously, not with a short ram, but with a full intake tract.

I live in edmonton also. Unless you drive completely oblivious to the road conditions in front of you, you won't hydrolock your engine with a true CAI.
See a massive puddle in front of you? Don't hammer the throttle as you go through it. I've had a true CAI on a number of my cars, including my TL and have never had an issue.
Which is better? that's the $100 question.

You're better off sticking with a Cold Air Intake for power and efficiency (not getting hot air). Our XLR8 AEM V2 Intake is CARB legal and will pick you up an extra 8 to 10 horsepower.
XLR8 Intake by AEM - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!!
Cold Air Intakes actually have a very low chance of hydrolocking. You would have to completely submerge the filter in water to hydrolock.

The stock CAI was designed to be quiet while providing enough air for the stock motor and exhaust setup. It's been proven larger intakes add power, such as a 4" setup, with bolt on mods. Why some of you still think nothing adds power over the stock CAI is a mistery.
The stock CAI also weighs ~8lbs and has more twists and turns than the Grand Canyon. Ditch the bitch or go the cheap route and cut everything out from the resonator box forward.
