Stock TL, I need help with exhaust systems

Hi guys. I'm new to modding cars, and the first car I've got to put work into is the 2005 acura TL. Its still stock, haven't changed anything at all. The first think that I'd like to do is change the exhaust system. I'd like to know from all you experienced acura owners what the best mods for the exhaust system are. I'm not looking to spend much more than 500-600 dollars on the system. Outside of an increase in horsepower I'm really looking for that nice growl for the car. Could anyone suggest a good system or a few mods that i could make to get that nice deep (and loudish) growl? Thanks a ton.

this thread again.........well first you arent going to find an exhaust for that price unless its use (check blackmarket). IIRC the 500-600 range have been discountinued. The ones avaliable to my knowledge are the XLR8, RV6 (which is on back order iirc) and ATLP. Check out our vendors and since you are going for more of a growl check the link below.

read the thread and decide on what you want. oh and welcome.

$500-$600 for exhaust system? you should of bought a civic if you want that cheap for an exhaust system. You might want to look into "stage" mods or do something custom. These cars arent cheap to mod.

You can get a used GReddy Evo II for that price. Look in the Black Market.

The previous owner of my TL just modified the axleback with some magnaflows and kept the original tips.
you do not need a mid muffler delete if you go this route. I tried deleting it and it was ridiculously loud. Just an alternative if you cant afford one of the name brand things. You need a subwoofer to really hear the bass note, headphones probably wont cut it.
It's not the best way to do it i suppose, but eh its already done.

I wouldn't waste the money with the stage mods. Just buy a catback and call it a day

I've grown up a bit and decided to keep what I have and be thankful for it. It's not worth losing money over

i hate how there are more replies and discussions going on in noob ass posts but when someone who actually knows what they are talking about want to discuss and and see what other enthusiasts opinions are the thread turns into a ghost town.....oh the shame.
by the way 500-600 can get you a custom made exhaust system that just as good if not better. its just risky try to find someone who has a system made by a local shop and inspect the work youself

How is a custom made exhaust "better" than one made by a XLR8, ATLP, Comptech, etc? Better welds? More gains? And why would you waste the time or effort finding a shop to make it instead of buying something that's already been engineered to fit and work?
I didn't do any exhaust modifications until I got my non-resonated ATLP Base. I had that for about a year until I added the ATLP V2 J-Pipe and the ATLP Race Pipe. None of those parts gave me fitment or quality issues.

You've obviously never built an exhaust. There is no way to get a mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust with dual mufflers and a resonator for $500-$600. To fabricate a catback exhaust with mandrel bends typically takes at least 10-12 hours. The material alone would be $600 with 2 mufflers, tips, piping, mandrel bends, etc. Sure, you could probably get a cheap setup for $600 with crush bent mild steel and cheap mufflers but it wouldn't be as good or better than the systems on the market.

im thinking of selling my comptech for an xlr8 resonated v2. Im just afraid of the drone. The comptech is really nice with the HFC - v3 JPipe. Its not quiet by any means but i wish it was a little deeper and a bit louder. Before i purchased the comptech i had the atlp non resonated and it was just to much for regular driving. When you do get past the drone it was almost perfect. I had it for two weeks and sold it because i couldnt stand that droning.

I did stage 2 with no mufflers and an extra resonator and I think it sounds good - actually a bit on the quiet side, believe it or not. Went with 2.5" from the cats back and ended up spending around $600. There's a sound clip on my build thread
