Cool Some photos of air intake resonator chamber, for those interested in DIY air intake

I investigated the air intake resonator chamber of 04-06 Acura TL today, in order to figure out how to actually make a cold air intake system myself, according to the no photo (therefore worthless)thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/diy-cai-569702/

This thread's OP, JDM5lugHatch's idea is:

And you can find the part numbers and illustration at OEM Acura Parts:
http://www.oemacuraparts.com/find-pa...ER%20(-'06)

I remove the front bumper, and here is the resonator chamber:

I don't quite know what this auxiliary pipe is for. I thought it could be for wires to run through it, but there is no wires in it. Both ends of it are open. Here is another picture:

And here is how it looks when I removed it:

Here is a view of entire resonator chamber:

There are at least 3 visible screws holding it in place. This is the first one on the left. It is a 10mm screw:

Closer:

There is another one holding it on the right:

And the last one appears to be very difficult to reach. This photo is taken when looking downwards next to the battery. In this photo, you can see the battery mount on the top of it, and the pipe is #1 intake pipe (air intake tube C: 17245-RDA-A00).

Thoughts after investigation:
1. A 10mm box end wrench won't work, because there is plastic trim around the screw. You need a screw driver with 10mm box end head to unscrew the screws;
2. You need to find a way to unscrew the 3rd screw under the battery box;
3. Cutting of the resonator box would be challenging if you don't have automatic tools. I try to hand cut it, but the plastic is very, very solid.

Thank you for the pictures! Been looking through old dead threads looking for detailed pictures on the removal of the stock resonator with no luck. So once it's out do you connect the new gap with a tube?

Thumbs up

On Monday I finally got this DIY cold air intake system done. Kenyon has my thanks.

I came out that it is actually a little bit too tight for Pipe#1 to fit Pipe#2, so you have to take a heat gun to soften the end of Pipe#1 first.

Besides that, everything is perfect. This DIY is so "stock" that you will think the chief designer's must have deliberately designed it; and it is so efficient, comparable confidently to the AEM one.

I don't have a subscription of a stable image hosting service. Therefore I uploaded a backup group of these photos to Photobucket.

Thanks.

But isnt the AEM V2 tuned as an intake ?

I dont think its all about cold air. The AEM V2 is specifically designed for proper torque at certain RPM's.

Not sure, but I have read this on here somewhere.

Nice Thread Something to think about thats basically free compared to the AEM V2

I knew I should have taken pictures of what I did, but now its all destroyed.

I didn't heat it, I just forced the tubes to snap back in, and it looked longer than what you have.

On the splash guard which is in one of pics you showed, I cut a hole, and it was about flush. The intake was actually really loud outside that way

I was just kicking around the same idea then found this thread.
Any MPG gains?
Does anyone know where that "unknown" pipe goes to?

the unknown pipe as you call it, in my opinion directs air upward where it gets collected on top of the intake tube... pretty much when driving it pushes colder air up to the intake, so instead of sucking in hot air you get fresh air up there. I dont think you guys are gaining anything but sound. The nice sound from an intake comes from the CONE FILTER but with this option it probably has a drone to it and its just louder in general.

I just saw the diagram online, you're right. It looks like it leads up the the grill area where fresh air is brought it. The OEM intake is already a CAI. It just takes a longer route and has a resonator in the way.
That spot where all the CAI's are putting the cone filter, it makes the path shorter, but the OEM design seems to be where the real cold air is at.

I have my K&N cold air intake in my closet . By going back to stock i gained back low end torque which is much more pleasant when driving around town in a car that doesnt have much low end torque to beginwith. Im sure my engine will be healthier too and i dont have to worry about hydrolocking any longer... The only thing i miss is the sound from it ...

Back from the dead... isn't anyone worried about sucking debris up in the pipe without a filter?

Travis this mod is only deleting the intake resonator not the OEM airbox that houses the air filter.

That makes since now. I looked at a bunch of these mods and a lot of them were replacing with an aftermarket K&N filter or something of that sort. That's what through me off on this one.

It is not dangerous for the engine to suck snow with this set up?? Water probably not because it is heavy but snow is really light so I think it will probably reach the filter!?

There's a giant bumper blocking the inlet. There's also a plastic plate underneath the car that will prevent most things from going up into the inlet tube.

Should any snow make its way into the tube, the engine air filter will just do it's job and absorb it.

I really don't see snow being a problem unless your using your car as a snow plow.

Yes but the snow can enter by the trap in the corner of the bumper (don't know how you call that in English?) in a snow storm for exemple. I live in quebec and we have a lot of snow believe me! But yes it is true that the filter will block the majority of the snow.

Resurrecting for a few questions: I'm guessing this mod wouldn't affect resale value, despite being irreversible, because no one would look for it, but would a dealer notice and give you grief for any reason?

Also, adding a few more pictures I've found about this DIY. This way they can be in one place.

Quick Reply: Some photos of air intake resonator chamber
