Short Shifter(unsure if additional items required)

Hi guys I am looking at: Skunk2 6 Speed Shift Knob [627-99-0081] for my 2004 Acura TL... I want to buy this but just want to make sure this is everything I need for the install or if its just the shift knob itself.

The description says "when used in conjunction with short shifter"

Here is the link: http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...roducts_id=115

Any insight from someone who already has this is appreciated.

It'll work, I'd suggest you pair that up with Hybrid Racing shifter bushing kit through http://www.heeltoeauto.com/hybrid-racing-shifter-bushing-kit-07-08-ua6-ua7-tl-tl-s.html. You'll feel it a great combintation.

Being pretty new to all this but feeling comfortable modding, you're onto a good start. Our chassis code is UA6 while the TL-S is UA7. Probably something new that you learned as well.

UA6 UA7 TL/TL-S

Another thing you may want to look into is your slave cylinder check valve delete. With this all done, you'll feel this car different than stock and very much well sportier as you are more connected to the car.

To actually answer your question, based on the description this is ONLY a shift knob, NOT a "short shifter".

The bushings are what make it shorter, right?

No.

The short shifter just attaches to the bottom of the shift lever. Extending it and thus making the pivot "shorter". Probably mixing up technical terms there but whatever.

stock

short shifter

This generally introduces a little bit of gear "resistance". You will lose a fraction of that pure blissful "melting butter" shifting that the stock gearbox provides. This is where the weighted knob comes into play. The extra weight overcomes a little bit of that lost feeling.

They do, however, make countersunk knobs as well. So not only can you shorten the throw, you can also shorten the shifter height. Mechanically though it's best to leave it a bit higher. IMO.

The bushing attaches to the end of the shifter cables. These just remove some of the loose play the stock bushing allow.

I recommend just buying the ht spec kit from Heeltoe. Save a bit of money and do it all at once.

PS - I love my Maven knob.

Edit: IMO don't do solid gearbox/lever bushings. Also, some people zip tie the two shifter cables together in the engine bay and claim a more "solid" feeling.

If you think about how the cables work inside of the "sleeves" then it can kind of make sense. The less play overall in the cable, the more "channeled" the inner cable is, the better.

I did it and I felt no difference. But I'm maxed out of those types of mods. Maybe stock with zipties is noticeable.
