s/c or pretty toys?
AHH!!! Should I do it?! I was strongly considering the purchase a week back, but after struggling to get a hold of a used one for around 3k, I'm hesitant as to whether or not I should actually go through with the purchase; especially with the rising fuel costs in WASHINGTON: we're at 4.50 a gallon...premium; 4500 for a new one from excelerate by the way (shipped)! OR as an alternative...I could get some rims and maybe the J-Pipe/Test Pipe? Maybe a pulley......................................... I'd appreciate it GREATLY if anyone could put some sense into me...
the only reason i want it?...to keep up with those pesky G's, RX-8s (to rape, more or less haha), 335's.........................................mazd aspeed6/3's...etc etc....
Thanks,
Eric

i was in the same situation as you. I wanted to get the axis hiro or seven mod in 19' or the s/c. If i got the rims I wouldv've been worried about my car getting stolen even though i have 2 different wheel locks on. Then I saw ACTROS thread on the blower and was losing sleep at night trying to decide what to get. So I ended up buying the s/c kit. I mean 4500 is a good price thats what i was quoted from my shop. Its a tough call but after watching those videos on you tube that made up my mind. I wanted more power instead of rims. Good luck on your decision.

buy the S/C, most members that have gotten it have posted of MPG gains with it, but that's when they are driving it nicely. Also it's hard to know that you have it, so it won't get stolen easily. There might be one or 2 for sale in the Black Market.

s/c is the prettiest toy, if you really got the cash atm to get it immediately.
as soon as i fix up the body of my car and clear out my headlights the next and final step for me would be a blower; but in retrospec with ALL the mods i've done in total, i'd rather have just saved up for 1.5 years and gotten a blower before any of these mods.

I won't lie to you... if my car was bone stock... and I had not done all the little things i've already done... s/c would soooo be in my budget... I even had a couple g's saved up for it... guess what, bout to spend that on some new wheels...
the truth is, it is the ultimate goal of all of us 3g tl'ers... after you get the s/c, what else is there to do rofl, that is the justification I give myself for not getting one asap, I just know I will be done with mods if I get one...

Being a new join to the SC club... I sat on mine for 9 months or so before I installed it. Man am I kicking myself for that now.
Do it first. You drive the SC everyday. You hear than whine everytime you mash it. You feel that power rush at the onset of boost... It's great, make the car feel awesome, which you'll appreciate everyday. Rim/pretty mods are nice too, but the daily feel of that SC makes you love the car more everyday. Cosmetic mods lose their lustre after a few months... Look how many are on their 3rd set of rims (me included)...
I blew a bunch of money on other mods before this... TEINS, Volk 19s, AV stuff... Supercharge is the most bang you can get... Get it first. Had I known now back then, SC would have been the 1st mod.
You can always get rims later, and there's a LOT more of those for sale used and significantly cheaper.
Everyone here has rims... only a select few have the blower.
and like I said in my SC install post... DIY and save $500+ in install costs. The provided instructions are so good, only a monkey can screw it up.

Get the supercharger and motor mounts, and keep the stock wheels. Aside from the drop you want your TL looking stock, HighSpeed is running a CTSC with just a custom intake and stock exhaust, no one would know you're supercharged until you're 2-3 cars ahead.
Its a fact if youre too flashy you get to much attention from everyone, cops included, why risk getting harrassed or perhaps getting the attention of these looking to steal your wheels.
Nothing beats keeping a low profile.

Oh by the way the reason I mentioned getting the motor mounts is because it'll help keep the car planted to the ground when you give it gas. It should keep the car a bit more stable than stock mounts. At least that's what's advertised.

I contemplated the s/c myself [even though I don't have the money]... but I never really liked or was a fan of superchargers. I'd prefer n/a or turbo---but the want/fiend for power is there... and I crave it.

*sigh* i've decided to go with a-spec rims and a bbk. i had an experience over the weekend that made me think "safety first" - i couldn't stop on the freeway!...the bbk is important and i think i'll get that FIRST and then save up for the s/c...
but who knows, maybe i'll have enough $$$ by the end of this summer!!!? hopefully...haha
no use in more power if i can't control it...right?!

Thanks man, I still have my ice box with my supercharger and I was thinking about a custom CAI but is there any gain's by doing a custom CAI?

Hell yes there is. The car is much more raw and powerful than with the ice box. The custom CAI gives you the feeling you get when you first take your car out in the morning and it feels like 300+ Hp to the wheels. For me the first few minutes of driving to the freeway were dangerous with the ice box, now the whole ride is like that. Another plus is the car sounds like a F1 car every time you hit it. Also no need to take off the bumper to put the CAI on ether. I would be happy to do a detailed tread and take my intake off to take pics if anyone wants to do this mod.

I say get the blower.... With that said, I did the the exact opposite and got wheels, suspension, exhaust and intake. I know - hypocritical but at the time I couldn't afford the S/C and couldn't resist the temptation of getting something - anything. Whenever I look back at it, I have regrets about not getting the S/C first because at this point in time I don't really care for the other parts.

Yes, good thinking I dont see how these people in the TL are able to stop with stock brakes, after a few slow downs from 80ish, I get brake fade.
Which brake kit are you getting, are you also upgrading your rear rotors or just getting a front BBK.
If I had a lot of money I would get BBK for the front and rear, but I will most likely do BBK in the front and the rear brakes will be Rotora stock sized slotted rotors, with a HAWK brake pads. (This setup should be around $2000 with installation, since I'm getting the one piece BBK so they clear the stock rims!)
Make sure if you get a BBK you get a tire that can get good traction as well. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS are awesome all season tires, I got the Yokahoma AVID W4S they're very inexpensive, but if I had the money at the time I would've got the Bridgestones because they're better, but they were 70$ more a tire.
By the way lightweight wheels 17" wheels could be another route, that'll help acceleration/braking/handling. The only downside is they get bent a bit easier than the stock wheels.
