I am working on getting a V2 repaired. No one has ever opted out of my V3 PCD upgrade deal. I should have details monday or tuesday.

The crack is getting bigger each day. I'm not trying to rush you but I need this asap. I would upgrade to the v3 but I'm short on cash since I've bought a few items for the house. I'm planning to run the repaired v2 for about a month or so then I'll upgrade to the v3.

Ok, for Richie, and others since no mention was made of anyone actually doing this, but it was recommended that it might help. Here is my install and review:

I hope it's helpful.
And not sure if anyone ventured over to my FS thread for my jpipe...but thanks, Anil, I took your advice. I started thinking about this whole Jpipe thing and felt like maybe I jumped the gun to sell it. I had thought I'd sell it and maybe buy another brand down the line. BUT GUESS WHAT?!! For all the other brands, even if they're cheaper, it's cause you end up having to buy a race pipe, which RV6 already has included in this jpipe. So I'd lose 100 bucks on what I spent on the pipe to sell it now, act all shortsighted, and when things normalize, I'd have to rebuy a jpipe. Dumb.

So, I had ordered this header wrap for my intake, mistakenly. So it was just sitting, Swoosh recommended I use it. I started reading about the other brand jpipes and it seems, due to the use of the flex pipe, they all end up adding rasp. I will admit that although my car sounded more tame, I did miss the aggressive and low end and the nice gurgle of the exhaust. The way I've been driving, I would never hear rasp anyway.

SOOO...I took my time, was able to loosen the 2 frozen nuts on the primaries (when hot, the nuts came off and the threaded stud stayed in!). Then I put some antiseize on that bish for good measure. I used Richie's nuts (yep, I said it) this time for the front 6 bolts and wrapped both flex pipes with the headerwrap I got on amazon for 15 bucks shipped. I used safety pins and such to pin it into place. I don't know if the rasp I was getting was from resonance...or if when cold, the pipes had more ability to move and when you'd punch it it would cause them to bounce off each other...but, with the header wrap on there, it created a buffer of sorts between then, although very little space, it muffled whatever rasp I had. I took it for a lighthearted spin around the block and it was fine, warmed her up, downshifted to 2k rpms in 2nd and punched it, smooth and MEAN AS FK till top of second, same in third. I'll share this in that Richie rasp thread, to see if it helps.

Anyway, I asked that my FS thread be closed until further notice. I'll revisit if I change my mind again...I left the underneath cover off to make it easier to get to hanger in case I do.

Here it is wrapped, piece of wood to give me some room to wrap:

Here it is installed, used a plastic trim separator to keep spacing while torquing down front nuts.

I've had RV6 V1 Jpipe on since 2009 and never had a problem with it. I'll be soon upgrading to the V3 and will look out for this.

Reason for jpipe upgrade is s/c and new exhaust. Nothing is wrong with the V1 jpipe.

Very nice, I'm sure you'll have zero problems selling, man. Was the V1 a similar design?!? Maybe I'm just more sensitive to a raspy exhaust!?!?

Thanks!
I wonder if the fact that you're starting off with only 1 flex section is reason why there would be less rasp. Drive into work this morning was nice, aggressive and no rasp, as I experienced last night. I guess the only upside to the V3 is the fact that it has the race pipe built in and making the 2 pipes rejoin into one further down the line probably gives better gains.

J.

very cool, J.

is it a good idea to wrap the flex portion tho?

i'm gonna order some of this wrap too and do my precats, and jpipe until the merge at the catback.

did it make everything quieter all around?

well equal lengths dont matter as much

what matters the most is the merge....merges and splits is where we loose power.....

the flex pipe is there for a little twisting around purpose....by wrapping it you only make it a little rigid but it does not mess with its operation....

btw you got text for the exhaust wrap....

I got my exhaust wrap on amazon...I'll likely follow up by putting a hose clamp on either end of my wrap to keep it from unraveling now that I know it works. I used some T pins to hold in place for now.

I definitely feel like it did help quiet things down and it stopped the raspy sound that was coming from the the flex reverberating at certain RPM's...I believe.

Anil, again, thanks for the idea. My merge is the fkn bomb...

Sharky, please do let us know how wrapping the precats affects the sound/rasp etc...

This looks like a good fix. I'd still have to get mine fixed with new flex joints or just get a new jpipe. I rugged mine up being low.

^^^just scraped, or damaged!?!?

I have an addendum to my repair. As luck would have it, I decided that I should probably use some hose clamps to ensure the wrap wouldn't unravel. I get under the car and what do you know...that bish is already unraveling!

10 pack of 2 3/4" clamps for $9.87 at home depot...used 8 of em, 1 on each end of my wrap and 1 on each transition of the flex pipe, before and after.
