Richie V-6 Products

hello all
i'm sure there's a thread around already having reviewed richie's products, but in the end, i felt obligated to post separately; i ran into quite a few problems, and long story short, richie aided me in fixing/finishing all of them (plus Ale: ))!

a few months back, i purchased the j-pipe, race pipe, and pre-cat deletes (used) from stillhere153 - thanks ale! installed a few weeks later (richie sent me brand new pre-cats); i would have installed sooner if i had the confidence to do so. despite, the install took 2 nights, unfortunately because our "team" got stuck on a stupid bolt that just WOULD NOT come off on the rear cat. overall the install was fairly straight forward. initial start up was FRIGHTENING...the car sounded great though! as for the performance...let's just say the power's definitely there. i haven't been able to get any clips, but i'll try to do so SOON. as of recently, i've been pushing the car VERY hard...and the power pushes the car up to higher speeds quite unexpectedly our spirited runs have been...interesting to say the least. i've had a few encounters with G's, Z's, and other odd ended Subi's and Hondas...i held my ground unfortunately, lower end torque is lacking...hence my SHOCK at how quickly i went from 65 to...such higher speeds . Anyways, the power package was worth every penny! Only complaint is the smell, but it's expected...and i seem to be finding more and more ways to work around it...it's all good.

ALSO, Richie's strut bar's some good stuff. I get over-steer! TeehhHhHeeEEeEe! Definitely holds the car down and body roll up front is most certainly decreased. I'm confident...trust me...I beat that shitz and it held on TIGHT! Thank you Richie!!!

It sounds like the mod you made just shifted your power band. I must ask if most of ones driving around is less than 65 MPH (per your comment) then does it make sense to do the mod and accept coming out of the hole slow?

I am starting to think the mod is just trading one end of the spectrum's power for the other. What do you guys think? I realize it may be tough to admit something unpleasant after making an investment.

This guy went from 3 stock ULEV cats and J-pipe to no cats and larger better flowing J-pipe. The loss of back presure accounts for the loss in low end TQ and the nice increase in both HP and TQ up top. I think taking your cats off is a pretty crazy mod, so unless your are thinking of going the same route the loss in TQ is not there with just an aftermarket J-pipe. The stock Cats are restrictive enough to keep good back pressure, pull them off and I could see power loss down low.

I know the J-pipe, cat back and high flow cats made a huge improvement with the supercharger, but I installed the blower before the exhaust.

glad I could help... yea I duno what happend to the precats I had, they were from the first batch, and NYC winter doesn't help much, so there was a hairline crack on the front from what I was told...

and yes I will agree there is a lack of low end... but that is pretty much useless on a car that lives at 6k rpms... I found that downshifting solved low end tq problems... afterall in 1st gear the low end tq being absent prior to 2k rpms kills the oversteer... course at soon as its in 2nd at vtec your chirping tires.... in an auto thats just sick

uh...i'm not an expert, but i believe it's a combination of the pre-cats and the j-pipe. low end torque is created by back pressure...the back pressure is/was created by the bottle necking -> 2.25 to 2.5. someone correct me if i'm wrong, in which i probably am...despite, it's somewhere along those lines. the pre-cats, j-pipe and test pipe are all 2.5 in diameter...hence it's more free-flowing with no bottle necking

Heres my Accord dyno stock VS precats delete, jpipe, and exhaust. You don't loose low end, after 4.5Krpm the beast is released.........

Wait. It's stock accord vs. a bolt-on accord dyno? So with pre-cat deletes, j-pipe, & exhaust, you only gained 15 hp?!

I thought 15whp was gains from just pre-cat deletes alone, not pre-cat deletes, j-pipe, and exhaust. I could of swore I've read that somewhere on here

Maybe on a TL-S not on the Accords, 15WHP is a good gain for an Accord with just exhaust mods. .

I think 15 whp is pretty good consitering that NO hp or tq was lost anywhere in the power band...it was an increase EVERYWHERE!

dunno the low end balogny is just hearsay I quoted... all I know is when I had my tl-s it was 2.25 at the head, 2.5" to the tail... and um... yea there was that thing about the single exhaust... but when my tl-s was stock... sunny 201 (07 3.2liter) left my ass in dust and he had rv6 full package and an aem intake with greddy evo2 catback... I was pretty much stock (07 3.5 liter after being parted out) minus a lightweight crank pulley

Yes, but Richie..you're dyno wasn't "corrected." The stock dyno was from another 6MT on another dyno. Also, it dyno'd on the high end for stock @ 215whp. Someone on dyno'd a 10whp gain from just the Comptech exhaust. Every dyno is different, as long as you stay on the same dyno and quote each gain, it's whatever. 1/4 mile times are what counts in terms of power. A 225whp car can be faster than a 250whp car with the right driver

So with pre-cat deletes, jpipe and exhaust it only made 4whp until 5K then it made ~16whp? Thats not really impressive I know its on a 3.0 liter so it would yeild more on a 3.5 liter but not anywhere near double. ??

I prefer the Borla exhaust, which yields 12HP, and backed by a solid Million Mile Warranty.

I think the 4" dimension refers to the outside, overall diameter of the 20" long resonator, not the piping diameter. Since the system splits into two 1.75in pipes I would expect the pipe diameter at the resonator is probably between 2.25" and 2.5", but most likely 2.5". The final outlet tips are 4" though.

Unfortunately, Borla does not offer the cat back system for TL owners. I am very satisfied with the fit and finish of the pipes. The T409 SS allows the pipes to reveal a mirror like finish after polishing them, where the competitor's are using inferior metal and are dull.

Too bad we cannot convince Borla to make a system for the TLs.

I wonder why our vendors don't match the Borla warranty of a million miles.

The 12 HP gain is pretty impressive for a mild sounding exhaust system.

You may want to talk to Dave Borla about his million mile warranty.

I think if anyone commits to that type of warranty they must feel pretty strong about their product. Who else is willing to take on that type of risk?

borla? what are we driving SUVS? LOL....

anyway, i gotta be complete honest here, i lost low end torque with richies v1 j pipe, and i gained it back with the atlp. BUT while looking at richies v2 j pipe, it sure does look ALOT better than the v1. it definitely is going to flow alot better than the v1, but time will tell!

^i'm glad i will get that low end back with an exhaust, and i'm even more stoked that ATLP came out with a design I like.

so, do you think the V1 just has a top heavy torque curve, or, does it simply produce less than the others?

You're gonna spend a few more Benji's than just the face value of the S/C, and the S/C doesn't gain that 60 whp until about 6300-6500 rpms (5AT) https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ercharger+dyno

Many of the Accord enthusiasts seem to go with Borla. It is hard to beat the warranty and awesome sound.
