resonated vs non resonated

i have the resonated atlp exhaust and i am thinking about getting resonator removed for just a regular straight pipe....will that make a difference in loudness like will it be noticably louder or is it not worth it?

yes it will make a difference if u take out the resonator.. It will be louder

I dont know how the ATLP sounds like without the resonator with ur setup, but a straight pipe sounds like a fart can..u will eventually add back on the resonator.

Yea i would recommend leaving on the resonator on the ATLP

Get a j-pipe with a race pipe(non resonated). Also a aem V2 intake if u dont have one already

after that u should be alright with the sound

good point..Some people say the non-res ATLP is too loud.

In ur case, its not loud enough, but it looks like u got other things to upgrade to really hear how loud it really is.

If you want loud do the precat deletes. I posted a few videos of my car with ATLP quads and j-pipe, RV6 precat deletes and test pipe.

replacing the third cat converters are precats right? and is this legal and will it pass emissions? I dont want it to create any problems either that would void my warranty or anything like that.

Whats better test pipe or race pipe to replace the third cats?

I would def keep the reso on the mid-pipe.

Test pipe and race pipe can describe the same exact type of part. Test pipe supposedly means for testing purpose, might have a bung, or for a catless dyno, ect. Race pipe generally mean a straight pipe to replace the cat.

I like ATLP's since it has the heat shield mounting tabs, for a stealth look mocking the appearance of still having the 3rd cat in place.

RV-6 is nice since it is like a small, mini resonator, he calls it a resonated test pipe.

Local, and State ordinances/laws will apply to your exhaust. Some may even state ANY modifications to the exhaust is illegal, not just the emissions side of it. Generally the chances of getting in trouble are slim to none, depending on where you live. You should pass emissions if everything else is in order, the computer does not take any exhaust readings after the 2 primary cats, or before the 3rd cat.

i think im gonna end up getting resonator removed and straight piping it, and also removing third cat for race pipe from ATLP. Will this be something acura can use against me to avoid using my warranty for certain issues. I know if its a cat back exhaust they really wont do anything warranty wise but messing with cats could be bad idk. With the straight pipe and race pipe replacing the third cat will it be a LOT nicer than a resonated ATLP with nothing else.....is it worth the extra money?

If I had seen this sooner I could have gotten you a race pipe for a little cheaper, since I think you're pretty close to me. I have one that I used for 2000 miles before I switched to a hfc.

I am kind of tempted to switch exhaust pipes with you since I have the non-res version. But, without knowing what it would sound like I don't think I want to risk it.

im gonna get my resonator cut off for a straight pipe, i can sell you my atlp resonator if you want, it sounds good man its just a little quiet for me i like LOUD. It gives a nice clean sound. Why are you trying to get a resontaor??

I'm not necessarily getting a resonator. It's just something I have been thinking about on and off. I am on the fence about it. My system is loud, not obnoxious but loud. I was considering a resonator to cut down on the cabin drone which I have a good bit of. But part of me doesn't want to mess with it in case I don't like the outcome.

IF I were going to get the resonator from you I would insist we just switched pipes. There's no reason to cut both pipes up to swap a part that's already in one of them. Good luck with your exhaust.

will removing the resonator turn my check engine light on??

Also is the atlp exhaust without a resonator raspy or ricey?

No, on the check engine light.

Raspy or ricey, that very opinion based. I wouldn't remove the reso. I had to add a Hushpower HP-2 mid muffler to my ATLP mid pipe to reduce the drone/noise level a little. But, I don't like a really loud exhaust and the non-reso ATLP was in the really loud catagory imo.

Um... wait minute... ATLP has a resonated version of their exhaust!? D'OH! I just bought the last quads and was thinking it was kinda loud. You mean I could've have had ATLP add a resonator to my mid pipe?! ARGH!

personally i really want loud, and the resonated isnt loud at all unless pushed hard.

ANd yes you could have told mike to add on a resonator for 100$.

Is non resonated THAT much louder than a resonated version?? is it that much more noticable?

I bought an 18" Vibrant stainless steel resonator I am going to have welded into my ATLP Catback. Hopefully it will quiet it down a bit, but will it help with drone?

^Keep us posted, very interested in the results.

I remember Replayman put two resonators on his atlp and said it still droned. Opinions vary though. If I'm going to cut into this exhaust I want to be sure of the result. That's why I have been on the fence so long about it. Not to mention I still have plenty of unfinished mods to work on first.
