Replacing J-Pipe with Test Pipe

Hello guy's, my stock J-Pipe is bent and it is not in a good shape I need to replace it very soon. I was thinking of getting XLR8 J-Pipe with the XLR8 Test Pipe. I know that it'll give me power but I am willing to know how much and will the car sound louder?

One More question, will I pass the Emission Test?

Depends on the "emissions" test. You won't get any codes/CEL. And a "sniffer" shouldn't notice any difference. BUT a visual inspection might catch you out; it's happened to other members.

Maybe a tad louder. My J-Pipe (ATLP) alone actually reduced a little drone; added the test pipe (ATLP) and got the little bit of drone back; I've got the hacked stock exhaust, no mid-muffler, after market resonator.

I did think the tone was a little lower, a little more growl with the J-Pipe.

I've had no issues passing inspection (visual) twice. BUT I did put the stock heat sheilds back on over top of the test pipe.

That is the sound that I am looking for.

So what your saying is if the Mechanic pick's up the car and sees that there is no 3rd Cat, he will tell me I cannot pass the inspection? If that's the case, my mechanic does not do that as long the Machine read's it normally and no Codes are shown it will pass right?!

I am assuming that I will get 10WHP to the wheels with the J-Pipe and the Test Pipe?

it is highly unlikely that the emissions tech will look under your car.

i just got mine done and it took all of 25 seconds, literally.

you're fine man, enjoy the extra power!

Depends on the state and place you get the inspection. NC says the tech is supposed to visually inspect that the emissions equipment hasn't been tampered with or removed.

If the car doesn't throw a code, will the tech still have a look? Who knows?

Other states may just have a ODBII port scan and/or an exhaust sniff and if there's no issues, it passes.

Here's one local that got caught out: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/remove-third-cat-%3D-failed-inspection-758857/

Not to scare the OP off the mod. 95% of the time, you probabely won't have any trouble.

^that is a good point. it is state dependent.

OP, where do you reside?

The j-pipe doesn't alter emissions. The test pipe does delete a cat, the third cat, but it is not a monitored cat. So in most areas, it shouldn't create an issue. Even if it did, keep the original cat and reinstall for emissions purposes. It will only take 30 minutes or so and it will bolt up to our XLR8 J-pipe.

If you are asking me, I am from Brooklyn NY .

My mechanic never looks under the car! He just connects the computer to my car and that's it.

Will the Excelerate J-Pipe and the TP fit and connect without any issues to my stock exhaust and everything? The only slight little problem that I have is that it is pretty rusted there, hopefully there won't be any issue. I will let my Mechanic bolt them on.

Hey guy's I got 1 question about Rims. I need to buy 3 new Rims because my other one's are beat up (potholes). My front tires are 235/40/18 and my rear are 255/35/18. What size of the Rims I need to get, 18 x 8, 18 x 8.5, 18 x 9.0 or 18 x 9.5? For the Front and Rear. I would appreciate for a reply to this because I am not really sure.

Thank You!

I'd rather go to a wheels shop to get them fixed instead of replacing them.

Depends on the make and model of your car and what kind of wheel.

I'm afraid that the shop will charge me more than $200 and there won't be any point of fixing them if I can buy 3 Rims for 400 brand new.

I mean another 2 bills and get them N
EW why not?

sorry, wasn't aware that you could get the 3 wheels for $400 new.

compare prices at wheel repair shop VS new wheels. the one in my area does them for $75 a wheel.

in CA they put the car on a lift and check the CATs. But it should not throw a CEL like everyone said.

20 sounds ballpark. Your exhaust will play a role in whether you get max gains or not.
