Removing mid muffler from Comptech exhaust

I recently installed the Comptech exhaust and, while I do enjoy it better than stock, it still isn't quite loud/deep enough for me. I honestly can barely tell it's even there. Has anyone replaced the mid muffler with a straight pipe? If so, what is the sound like after you do that?

I would assume it will be louder without the resonator. I don't know how much louder but it should be. I had my resonator removed from my previous 2 cars and it has made the aft mkt muffler noticable louder than before. The installer from the muffler place even told me that replacing the resonatore with a straight pipe will give it more air flow since the resonator will restrict a bit of air.

Had my mid-muffler and resonator removed today and replaced with straight pipe. Sounds great! If you like the exhaust note of a GX35, you will love this mod. Just make sure they put stainless steel pipe in not aluminized...

Hook 'em!

Nice. I think I might have to do that. As it is it is "almost" what I want, but still too quiet. Even the way the Comptech comes is pretty sweet though. There's just a deeper tone to the exhaust, but not something you'd really notice. I'm just hoping to get it a bit more aggressive sounding.

I think TheMainEvent did this along time ago, although she hasnt posted in a while. From what I remember she loved the tone and it was a strong rec. for those with comptech exhaust

I just had this done yesterday. 30 bucks at speedway muffler on haven! Took them about 10 minutes. To clarify, I have comptechs ss exhaust. It doesnt have a resonator to begin with. Just the mid-muffler, and the two at the back. I cut out the mid-muffler . Then slid on a 2.5 inch custom bent pipe, flared on cat side and tapered the other end of it to slide back into the comptech piping. Sound so much more aggressive. And that mid-muffler weighs about 20 lbs. Really having ear-gasms left and right. It sounds much louder than the original ct setup. More than I expected. It stretched the 'sweet spot' from low rpm's only to high rpm's also sounding very mean(o/g comptech only sounded good to me at low rpm's). Felt weird about cutting up my 900 dollar exhaust, but the guys there said it would be bad-ass, and if I didnt like it, they could put it back. Go do it! GO DO IT! its 30 bucks-

How could they put it back if they cut it all up? Did they remove the whole center part and replace it with a whole new center part? So you could essentially just bolt back on the Comptech exhaust if you wanted to?

^-im not going to speak for JOE since I dont know exactly what they did, but most of the time if flages are not used you can still cut off the new pipe and reweld on the old mid muffler. nothing is ever permanent on an exhaust system, just after a while of hacking it up it starts to look weird. if i were putting back on the mid muffler i would just cut along the welds, make a little slip for each end of the muffler, and weld everything back together. flanges are the way to go if you are unsure about how it is going to sound or like to change the tone often

SUBINF is right, thats exactly what they said they'd do. Cut out the piece of pipe and weld back in the muffler. It sounds better and better, by the way

It would be nice to have a muffler shop fabricate a whole seperate mid-pipe so that I could change it at will if I want. I'd like that in case it is too loud or so I can sell it as the unmodified Comptech exhaust years down the road when I buy a new car. I think the flange by the cat wouldn't be too hard, but the slip mechanism that is used between the front and rear sections of the Comptech exhaust might be a difficult one to do.

any competent exhaust shop will be able to put flanges on whatever piece of pipe/muffler/resonator/etc you want to replace. i am a big fan of doing that because that then allows you to have numerous resonators to fit into the section you originally modified without having to hack the exhaust up each time.
