Removing Intake Mani. Cover - To mod or not?

Hi guys,

Sometime this summer (hopefully when I change the oil), I am planning on removing the upper intake manifold cover (seen here) so a friend of mine can repaint it. Over the years, the lettering on it has corroded to the point where sanding it down lightly doesn't really do anything.

Anyways, after reading around these forums for the past couple months I have heard of TL owners sending out their IMs to be polished and ported or installing the throttle body spacer from the MDX. Supposedly both of these mods together are not a good match, however one or the other produces some decent gains (or at least enough to be felt).

Because I will be partially disassembling the IM, would you guys recommend going one step further and installing either one of these mods? If so, can anyone recommend a shop that does excellent PnP work? I know Moore's has been suggested, but are there any other good shops out there people use?

Also, I could not find much on the MDX spacer. I'll keep searching, but if anyone has any experience with installing it - what was it like? What parts are required? Is it a good fit?

Sorry for all of the questions. I know gerzand has a build thread with a lot of info about PnPing the IM, but it's all at least a year old now. Some more current insights would be great.

if you're gonna tear into it, Might as well send off the IM and the runners to get ported and polished.

the upper cover is the easy part. 5min job.

taking out the rest is a little challenging at times.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll definitely PM gerzand about the PnPing - hopefully I won't be bothering him or anything. As Justin said, however, it looks like if I PnP the IM, I may as well do the runners. Might be a lot more effort than it's worth if the gains aren't there.

I'll think about it some more before I do anything too crazy haha. If anyone has any more information or opinions about modding this area of the car, please feel free to reply though.

If you are removing the runners too ---> Make sure that you have 10mm, 12mm, 14mm box-end wrenches. The 12-point, not 6-point, style. Many bolts have extremely tight working space with short throw area for the wrench. Unbolt both runner sets before attempting to remove one of the runner sets.
