You guys should read the thread over again. Racing is thicker than Z1 which is why some choose to mix Lightweight Racing with Racing to thin it out a little. D4 is about the same as Z1...on the thicker side.

^SSDALE...good catch, yes you are correct about Z1 being thicker than Redline racing fluid.

i meant to say that Z1 is thicker than the Redline lightweight ATF, so I apologize for any confussion that may have caused...


I'm running only the lightweight Redline ATF, so I can say with only the lightweight stuff in there about 9quarts worth it feels pretty solid....

I believe it's in here somewhere the viscosity's of the ATF oils

but something like

Redline Racing=10cst
Z1=7ish
Lightweight = 4.9

I Plan on doing a 3x3, 1 month in between.
I plan on using 6 quarts of lightweight 3 regular.

What is the best way to add the two types of oil?
Would adding 2 quarts light and 1 regular each time be the safest bet? I am not extremely interested in finding a sweet spot, but just going about it in the most logical t way so that once the change is complete I wont have to think about it for 60k miles.

Done reading the only thing can't get an affirmative answer on, probably because there is no right answer is should I do all racing ATF or add some lightweight, I am in North, Georgia so winter temps 20-40F.

I feel like I should add at least 1/3rd lightweight, but is it worth the extra 30-40$?

Lol there is an answer to that too. Basically the colder your climate in the winter, the more you want to add a little lightweight... Im in NY and in the winter it can get to be 0 or less degrees F.

I did 4 D&Rs. I did 9qts of Racing, and 3qts of Lightweight Racing. I'm confident in that. If you want to do 6qts Racing and 3qts Lightweight, you can't really go wrong. If you're only going to get 30-40 degrees in the winter where you are, you may be good with all Racing.

Go back over the last 4 or so pages of this thread and watch for posts between myself and I HATE CARS. You will get good answers from him on this subject.

I read that, I just don't like the fact that it would be a higher viscosity than stock and possibly to high on a very cold day? Whereas 1/3 lightweight could only help I suppose.

Ok, time for me to report after almost about 2 yrs being with Amsoil fluid and 3rd and 4th pressure switch. From the begging, it was smooth throughout the gears. Lately though, the shifts are more noticeable. I can feel every gear.
Now, the question I have is, should I do 3x3 again but this time with Amsoil racing fluid and change the 3rd and 4th switches again?

^I should have said that the hard shifts are on cold start till I get out of my neighborhood. Then the shifts are smooth but I still feel it. Or I am being too paranoid about it. lol

You're due for switches again. They made a nice improvement on my cold shifts and my downshifts. I hate to say it but these switches must be replaced every 2-3 years regardless of mileage. I'm sure the fluid won't hurt but the Amsoil racing fluid won't make the cold shifts any better. I highly recommend it but not for the purpose of smoothing cold shifts. FWIW, I'm getting ready to do my switches again also.

Btw, when I check the fluid, it is the same color as it is in the bottle that I have from 2 yrs ago (left over).

I have a 99 tl with 4 speed tranny. From reading a lot of this thread I'm still not if I can run redline racing ATF in my tranny. Can I and if so how much is recommended?

Honda came out with a new atf. Its DW-1. It is for the 2011 and newer cars, and supersedes Z-1

I plan on doing the drain and refill again 3 quarts and was wondering if I can do the redline type F even though I have the amsoil in there. Just to see how it is. I also plan on doing the 3rd and 4th pressure switches again and change the trans filter as well for the first time.

You can mix the two brands. It is ok to switch to Redline Racing after have been using Amsoil.
