Question about muffler/exhaust system replacement??

I have a 2004 3rd Gen TL and it currently has a dual exhaust system with SG-573 Sankei mufflers that are the stock models. I am wondering if there is a DIY way to bolt on an upgraded performance muffler (possibly a hotdog) in the TL that doesn't require welding and can give me a louder exhaust sound... anything??

Leave the rear mufflers alone and start with removing the mid-muffler and replacing it with a straight pipe and the factory resonator with a Magnaflow or Dynomax resonator. It will be a lot cheaper, will make your car noticeably louder without it being obnoxious ricer loud and you won't have any drone or rasp.

I don't recommend that you remove the resonator, as stated above, as the resonator's sole purpose is to quiet the noise INSIDE the car, and removing it won't do your exhaust sound any favors either.

If you're just looking for more volume, then the mufflers are where you should start. Contact XLR8 for this.

Loose your mid muffler. Straight pipe it.

Replace factory resanator with a dynomax. Will give that import soft growl. Magnaflo has that buzz tone to it more so

everyone hypes the magnaflow mufflers but to my ears they humm.

Everything is going to require welding.
Like everyone stated, try experimenting with remove/replacing the mid-muffler and resonator. Here's a great link that lists and describes some options that you have. Of course, you'll have to go to a muffler shop in order to get everything welded properly, along with ordering a resonator if you choose to.
