Question about AEM intake

Hey guys, I just installed AEM intake on my 06 TL, significantly more responsive engine and louder, but whenever I turn off my car, I can hear a small and short "psst" from the engine compartment. Can anybody tell me why is that?

Its normal...dont worry about it. The stock airbox hides that sound in the baffles and such...but it did it then too...you just never heard it before.

I just installed an AEM CAI on my 07 Type-S and was gonna ask a similar question being that Ive never had a CAI before. I actually have a psssst sound at the lower RPMs of each gear. Is this normal as well?

Yep...normal as well. Actually...when I am wide open throttle and the gears change...you should hear it then. It pops kinda like if you were to slap your lips together shutting your mouth - and now that its supercharged....it sounds like a jet popping between gears....its bad-ass!

all CAIs do this. I actually love the sound. I think it comes from the filter specifically. All the constant pressure that makes the filter slightly compact as the air goes through it stops all of a sudden, the screen on the filter creates this noise as the pressure equalizes within the tube and outside the tube. basically when the air stops traveling through the filter. think of taking a deep breath and then exhaling through your nose.

purely normal and awesome sound.

Actually...there is a butterfly flapper inside your throttle body that closes and opens between gears.....

+1. Now that I know its normal, its a beautiful sound. Reminds me a bit of my buddy's old WRX STi when his turbo breathed. His sounded more like a mac truck releasing its air brakes though.

Yes...thats a turbo blow off valve sound you are describing....what I hear being supercharged at wide open throttle is more like a thwooop hickup "flameout" kinda sound as the flapper modulates between gears in the throttle body....its crazy sounding. I really like it....wish I could get it on video or something so you could hear what I was talking about.

The filter isn't the source of these CAI sounds. I know because I drove around for a day sans filter and all the same sounds were there just a helluva lot LOUDER!

That is likely to be a misalignment of the CAI tube and it is rubbing somewhere on the inner fender area of your car...most likely the passthrough hole. When the motor moves on the mounts....if it isnt aligned just right...you will hear the metal rubbing....possible sqeek or rattle.

The psst you hear when you turn the car is OFF is the vacuum being released from the vacuum pump.

The hiss you hear at certain RPM's (and betwen gears) is turbulent air noise resonance that is normally "baffled out" by the stock intake.

Easy, Killer...

I was making a reference to ayethetiense's comment about the filter producing the CAI sounds.

Re-read the threads. I know I read them before posting.

so, because I corrected a guy that you very cryptically corrected before me illicits the response you posted? I don't see that happening often on this forum (I have like 3 posts but I read all of them).

There was nothing "noobish" about that response you just chose to e-smack me. 3,400+ posts doesn't make you a Jedi.

Do we like "e-box" or something next. I know you're going to reply. Kewl, it just boosts my total posts.

You havent been here long...I dont think you have been exactly e-smacked there buddy...that or you have never actually received a good e-smacking from me anyway. That ususally entails about a half page post where I rant on for eons, all the while ripping and tearing ones point to shreds....

So dont worry man....and no...we dont e-box over it...eboxing is like.....

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Hows that for a hoot! lol
