Question about AEM CAI

I have installed the AEM CAI and absolutely impressed with it. The car feels like it just wants to go faster and faster. Question I have is that there is a cover piece behind the lower grill of the front bumper. Is there a difference in air flow or added benefit to the intake system if removed. Has anyone removed this piece yet?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have cut out that small piece of black plastic with hand saw.

You get better air flow.

If you cut that peice off, surely you will get more direct air to the CAI but at the same time water can get in much easier.

I've cut the duct on the inside of the grill and done some duct work to gain more air flow since I've relocated my fogs. I can't really tell if it helps.
