Quad Exhaust in the making!!!

I have my 05 TL at a shop in Ottawa Ontario Canada, As we speak. He normally markets stuff for older Ferrari's and Audi"s. He is building a full Stainless 2.5" cat back sytem with what he promises to be an exact match to the TL-s quad tips... or a tad bit larger. He is willing to make more pending on the demand.. I am picking up my car at 5:00pm tomorrow and will try and post picks later that night.. If you want to check out some of his work go to www.stebro.com.

I am paying around 800.00 Cad for the system installed... Stay tuned!!!!

If the tips are as large or larger then the TL-S tip, then it probably woudln't fit you 05 bumper exhaust cutout, would it?

can't wait to see pics.

i hate to be so pessimistic, but until i see pics of it, i will keep my hopes here w/ me. There have been too many projects that have dropped the ball. This is in no way a negative reflection on the guy doing work for you.

Eagerly awaiting pics though!

Sounds great... can't wait to see. What kind of mufflers is he using? Try to snap some pics with the TL on a lift so we can see the whole thing.

Too bad... this sounds really affordable, but us US folks are gonna get killed in shipping.

He will be taking pictures of the entire process.. Start to finish.

I believe the mufflers he is using are made by him in his shop.. I was there yesterday and was very impressed with the entire outfit... He promises the tips will be a dead ringer for the TL-s exhaust.. I also sent him a sound clip of the Comptech cat back, He has promised me it will be very similar or a tad bit deeper depending on what resonator he uses...

Stay Tuned...

By physical dimensions of the rear cut outs on the 04-06 models, the Type-S exhaust wont fit, therefore, it can not be as large or larger then the Type-S. I have already looked into it to see if the Type-S exhaust would fit.

None the less, a quad exhaust will still look good and can not wait to see it. Jason

I just got the car home about 30 min ago. Wow it sounds amazing.... It's allot deaper than the comptech set up and the car feels a bit more responsive. It reminds alot like a C5 vette at take off and then it really opens up. The shop took several pics along with a sound clip, he had promised to send them to me ASAP.

I'm happy, but still a bit sketchy on the tips, I think they should be a bit bigger and a touch closer together, but i'll wait and see what everyone thinks... He is willing to tweak it anytime to make perfect...

I hope to have picks from him tonight, if not tomorrow...

looks ok so far. Tips look a bit small though, as you said, and are they polished or what?

omg...it looks like a project that was started on Acurazine finally went to completion!!!

Congrats on the exhaust. I agree w/ you in that the tips look not perfect (i wouldn't exactly say hoorrible...) Definitely need to make the tips bigger, and as subinf said, make it higher up. Great job though!

That looks good. I'd have the tips raised a bit higher. Anxious to hear the sound clip.

Hey guys, I just wanted to give you an update. I spoke to the guy at Stebro this morning about a couple of the comments that I thought and were made in some of the posts. He has promised to send the pics and the sound clip soon. I have booked an appointment for the car to go back and get bigger tips that fill the entire opening and the mufflers pushed up a bit.

I will be bringing the car in Wednesday next week. He's explained to me that by adding larger tips this will make the car louder.. I think its perfect now.. He will have to tune a bit and maybe change the resonator..

Sorry to keep you in suspense.

I will post pics and sound clip the moment I get them.

stay tuned...

Attacks and comments like that are one of the reasons I debated evening starting this thread.

I was hauled away on business for the last 3 days and didn't have a chance to drop the car off this week. I have a call into the shop to book it in sometime next week.

Sorry for the delay, work is more important... I will do my best to keep everyone up to date..

Looks good as an alternative to the comptech, magnaflow setups that have been popular. I agree with the others that it should sit a tad bit higher and a little bit bigger. for the work and effort you put in.

You'll always find idiots that want to take perfectly acceptable criticism over the top. Can't avoid it.

Looking forward to seeing the reworked exhaust.

attacks? i see no attacks in this thread... an attack is something like "WTF is wrong with you, why the hell would you do that??!?!" or "OMG, that thing turned out so ugly"

everything i see in this thread, and there isn't even a lot of it, is criticism. nothing should fear you from starting a thread, we are all here to share ideas and experiences. if you are scared of feedback, then you shouldn't be on a forum at all.

and yes, work is more important.

Hi guys, Sorry for the delay. I dropped the car off this afternoon and will be picking it up tomorrow night.

He will be changing the following from the pictures posted:

2.5 " quad tips with gap, too 3 " quad no gap with small resonator in tip. Mufflers will be angled and pushed up slightly.

The car sounds awesome, but maybe a bit to loud for production at cruising speeds. This is why we are adding the resonaters in the tips.

Can anyone tell me if the Comptech catback is bassy at 1800 rpm cruise??

Let's hope this is the final chapter.

Not a bad price. I'm waiting to see the price of some of these kits that people like excellarant are putting together will be. If they are too expensive. I have a local shop that builds exhausts for ricers to race cars that quoted me roughly $650 for a full stainless exhaust.

Hey Guys, we hit a little snag.. It's looks like 3 " quads will not fit right in the opening. He called me this morning and said that they are cramed in there and will not fit correctly due to the way the opening tapers. He also did not want the pipes touching any part of the plastic, causing vibrations or melting.

He is going to make 2 7/8" rolled tips and install them as soon as they are ready.

this is going to delay everything another a week or so...

Sorry for getting everyones hopes again...

Stay Tuned......

How loud is it. I had a Stebro cat-back system on my supercharged A4, and it was so freakin loud and annoying I have had to remove it after a month or so and go back to stock. Thing would give me a headache after like 10min in the car.
