Project TL: A little update on the performance side
So here is a little update on the performance side my my Project TL. I know everyone is going to ask me for dyno numbers or 1/4mile times, but I haven't had a chance to do them but I will update as soon as I do.
2006 Acura TL 5AT
Here is the mod list:
Engine:
--------------------------------------------------
Comptech supercharger
high boost pulley (7.5~8psi)
Custom cold air intake with Fujita filter
Relocated IAT sensor
E-shift procat
Megan straight pipe
DHM 2.5 E-cutout (straight pipe after the cat with a push of a button)
Outlaw intake and throttle body spacer
Snowperformance Water/methanol intercooling kit (activate at 4.5~5psi)
Aeromotive digital Fuel Management System
Aeromotive inline fuel pump
UR stock size crank pulley
Defi Boost, Fuel Pressure, and EGT gauge
AEM UEGO wideband AF gauge
Wheels/Suspenion:
--------------------------------------------------
STOCK 17 WHEELS
Advan 032R 245/40-17 (front)
Advan 048 235/45-17 (Rear)
Rotora 13" front BBK
Rotora cross drilled and slotted rear rotors
stainless brake line (front and rear)
Tein SS with EDFC
Other misc mods:
-----------------------------------------------------
Aspec bodykit
blacked light housing
HID mod
carputer
brownbread
I am now thinking if I should do the 3.5L swap with CL-S piston (lower CR for safe boosting) and get a custom pulley to raise the boost up to 10psi. With 10psi of boost, intercooling must be needed and it will be taken cared by the water/methanol system. On the CL forum, a few CL are boosting up to 10psi with stock internals without a problem so hopfully it should be fine.
The main concern now is fuel tuning. So far no one seem to have gotten any piggy back system to with with the TL, so a standalone system might be needed.
Right now I am using the comptech ASM with the modified fuel pressure regulator. The fuel system is delievering fuel without a problem and is actaully still a bit rich on the top end with the high boost pulley. With the stock FPR, the fuel pressure is at 60psi and with the modified FPR as per comtech's instruction, it's at 80psi. I am not sure if the current system will run fine with a few more PSI of boost.
As for the tranny, it's still holding up pretty well but I am planning to upgrade the torque converter. I will also figure out how to install a transmission cooler on it as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments? Anyone think doing the above mods is just waiting for a disaster to happen?

Do you have the High Boost Pulley already installed? I have been toying around with doing the 3.5L conversion, but I don't know how long I am going to keep my car. One to two more years tops. Financially, it just doesn't make sense to me. There maybe to many problems to be had and that requires deep pockets.

What are you using to monitor your alky/h2o tank level, pressure, clogged spray, ect? If nothing how will you know when you are out of alky/ h20 or not getting a continous spray. Could cause an issue @higher boost and you run out. You may be rich due to the alky/h20 kit at higer boost. BTW I ran alky /water on my evo for a while.
Sounds like a great set-up.
I would just like to CYA with alky injection ect. Just a peeve of mine.
Hope you put down some nice times @ the track!
Your van is Sweet, great job

The TL actually has a sensor for low fluids level. I am using the stock washer fluid bottle and when it runs low it displays in the MID.
And yes I am running with the high boost pulley right now.

Currently I am not even using the fuel pump as the stock one is more then enough.
As for the HBP, i think it's definitely worth it. The car pulls much harder and the supercharger spools up even faster and sooner. It also seems to run just fine with the crushed FPR and comptech ASM.

It's from comtech. Just call and ask for it. They didn't list it on their catelogue but they have it. However, use at your own risk. Make sure you know your A/F ratio is good that that you have enough fuel!!

It is LOUD with it fully open but it sounds really nice with a low rumble. I put the cutout specifically after the magnaflow resonator in order to tone it down a little bit. I think the resonator helped make it sound better and the straight-thru design does not affect the flow.

Do you recall if your high boost pulley was black (3.3 inches in diameter)? I'm wondering if CT made an even higher boost pulley than the CL-S HBP (7psi), which is what I have.

I believe my HBP is 3.0" (7.5~8psi). The 3.3" one is the one that came with the kit (4~5psi). I am not sure if comptech made an even higher boost pulley for your car, but I know for a fact that the pulleys for the TL is not interchangable with the CLS or Accord.

I just asked for it and they said they have it. I called back the next day to make sure and got the same answer. At first I thought they misunderstood me for the 2nd gen TL, but now I am sure they have one for the 3rd Gen as it's on my car now.

As luck would have it, they said they don't have one for this particular car. I spoke w/ Ryan @ sales, he said they have them for the previous year, but not ours. Did they have a part # for it? I'm getting the s/c installed next week, so I want to have everything ready for em to put on.
