pre cat delete does this mean when i do an inspection i wont pass in NY? like i know they just plug it into the ODBII thing, but will the pre cat deletes effect anything with that reading (i'm assuming yes?)

it WILL pass with flying colors...
here is how, obdii (on board diagnostics), will not show an emissions non compliance because both precats come with simulators, the simulator removes both secondary o2 sensors from the exhaust flow, thus making the computer read that the precats are functional.
BUT, since you are not boosted I would strongly suggest to also consider a 3rd high flow cat... or keeping the stock cat (which sucks) but will keep that exhaust smell waaaay down...
if you run precat deletes and a testpipe/racepipe whatever you guys are calling them today, your car will smell like syrup and burnt gas
quick sneak peek at the 300 cell hiflow cats (on the left) richie has planned
stock cat on the right w/ heatshield on
stock substrate
hi-flow 300 cell substrate

the syrup smell i'm okay with, it's really the inspections that i'm worried about.
besides everytime i get out of my TL i always smell the tires and brake stuff anyway, anotehr new smell isnt really going to bother me that much.

Two points/questions:
OK in Tampa we don't have inspections (hooray Tampa!) so I'm not too concerned, but I've ordered these precat deletes and I have ATLP's J pipe & test pipe on the way... (stock exhaust from there back) is the car going to reek of syrup/gas or just smell a bit like it?
Would header wrapping the whole system from the precats to the j pipe to the test pipe be worth my time?

I mean if you are standing by the exhaust it will reek, it isn't like that inside the car... I didn't have any cats in a couple of my previous cars and it wasn't a problem unless ur letting the motor run while ur loading items in the trunk hahahaha
As for wrapping ur precat deletes... I am, 4wd.com has the dei wrap kit for like $65 + shipping, got mine from them...
Black of course.... For some reason the other color is like $30 more
And also these retail for $90 and $100 on ebay respectfully....
Honestly wrapping ur jpipe and even the 3rd cat is overkill... Costly, and the wrapping will deteriorate from the moisture

Well you wrap headers to decrease underhood temps & help the engine run more efficiently, and you want to keep the exhaust gasses escaping as quickly as possible, right? I guess J pipe would be overkill. how hard is it to wrap our headers and test pipes?

I just don't get the misconception with bolt on mods and hp gains. 15whp from just exhaust mods is great. Expecting much more than that is ridiculous. We're not putting these on a 20 year old chevy 350, maybe then you might see 20whp from exhaust mods. Plus, intake mods will compliment the exhaust mods. Exhaust only gives about 10whp alone, and with a few deleted cats that's another couple whp a piece.

so no one really knows if you're getting more gains from the pulley or from the engine mounts? theoretically speaking, i want to say pulley, but i'd like an educated answer.
the wrap sounds like a great idea, but is probably not much of a priority to me at this point. now if i had a S/C, fuck everything would be wrapped lol....

well is the gain from these going to be worth the $ for me if I'm not going FI or putting aftermarket exhaust on? I don't race at all, and I open it up a bit from time to time, but I'd mostly like to get a peppier 2000-4000 rpm and better gas mileage assuming I'm not romping on it all the time. I'll be doing (thermally wrapped) CAI, TB spacer, IM thermal gasket, pulley, J pipe, test pipe, and (potentially) precat deletes all on the same day. I have no plans to S/C this thing so should I just leave the precat deletes out for my application? Where/what are the gains with these things? if it's all end-of-the-band power (with a MPG decrease) then I don't think they're for me... I really appreciate you guys' input though!

look at it this way, the precats are the same price of an aem intake... more gains.... does that answer your question, and there is no question it will give you mpg gains... richie reported getting same mpg average but he was flooring it everywhere he went... so I guess if you are getting 25mpg highway now you can go wide open everywhere and still enjoy the 25mpg average

haha stillhere just likes to stalk anyone that will provide him performance gains to become the fastest UA7 A/T
so right now only mr. MB has got the mule on? or what's up? should i be giving richie a call or is this just getting in the works now.
and based on what i've read so far, so if i get the precat deletes, and i'm sporting the j-shift downpipe and i have all 2.5 tubing / cat delete all the way to teh back, it's better to replace the test pipe i have with a highflow one? or am i just fine and i just need to install the precat deletes
btw MB, stillhere, do you think the engine mounts save more power or the crank pulley?

jcl got jokes... rofl... but yea... any of the members on my buddy list just end up talkn about mods rofl...
as for the going catless all the way back... try it, if it smells too bad then put in the high flow 3rd cat... I will probably roll on the 3rd procat till richie finished the 3rd high flow cat... which should be pretty soon

I'd say the crank pulley will help give you a little more to the ground. The 2 cars that I've done both those mods to, I've noticed more from the pulley...doesn't actually mean that the pulley does more, but it was a bit more noticeable. Granted neither was a TL, but it's pretty much the same concept. If one of you're mounts is going bad I'd say get the mounts, otherwise the pulley is a decent mod for the money.

I'm hoping this helps with my pinging problem a little... Sometimes freeing up the exhaust will help. I had my girlfiend floor my car when I was next to it and it hisses pretty bad. There's a restriction somewhere.
