Pre cat deletes with J-pipe/test pipe=Too Loud?

Ok I have a 07 Type-S with an RV-6 J-Pipe, RV-6 Test Pipe, custom resonator after test pipe and Mid Muffler removed. How bad would this set up sound if I added pcd's? I still have the stock muffers and piping.

Actually, it will sound amazing. You won't hear it on the low end but if you put a little foot into it, it will open up and moderately roar. Now, if you had an exhaust on there, it's a completely different story, lol. I had an ATLP exhaust with PCD, ATLP j-pipe, and test pipe, and I got a ticket for exceeding the "decibel limit" on my college campus.

won't your exhaust be limited by the stock piping and mufflers? you're freeing up the flow only to have it restricted again by smaller piping

Will a 3rd cat delete make my 06 TL sound ricey? Lookin for more of a G-35 sound. not looking for anything too loud just a little more bite too it. (If i want loud ill take the caps off my built 350 57' Chevy lol) I dont want it to sound ricey. i hate that sound with a passion. Any Ideas/Opinions would be helpful. (First mod for my TL)

Yes. Delete the 3rd cat before opening up the other 2.

When I did the J-Pipe & 3rd Cat Delete, there wasn't really any difference in the noise level or tone.

Rick, you recommend 3rd cat delete before Jpipe and PCD?? I'm a newbie, is 3rd cat delete the same as RV-6 High Flow 3rd Cat? Lot's of recommendations here, what do you all recommend I start with in terms of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.. mods? In can only do 1-2 at a time due to budget. I'm looking for gains. Any advice helps. Highly considering 3rd Cat delete first, then RV-6 Jpipe&Testpipe combo, later a PCD.
Thanks guys.

If your sure you will be doing the Pre-Cat Deletes then you should do the J-pipe and the high flow cat after. If you decide not to do the PCD then just get a test pipe instead of the high flow cat. I would do that first. About 2 weeks ago I installed my xlr8 j-pipe and test pipe and its amazing.

For power the pre cat deletes will yield the most power and noise. For the car to meet super low emissions standards the stock cats are very restrictive and use thick metal keeping a ton of heat in the engine compartment.

just make sure you keep your original equipment in case you need to reinstall for emissions testing, not sure about Illinois requirements

Question for all who has had this done before as well, but I'm wanting to ultimately do J/pipe, Test, full exhaust. I'd like to do PCD as well, but the one thing i'm concerned about is having the awful carbon monox smell - Where the exhaust smells so strong/bad. So my question is, does replacing the PCD's cause this? Would the Test pipe have an impact on that too or would it be primarily the PCD's?

Thanks

I have the XLR8 j-pipe and res-exhaust on my 05/AT TL. I'm gonna due the deletes this spring, I'm thinking of a Type-S 3rd cat in place of my stock one.

Has anyone heard this set-up? thoughts? opinions, ect.

I am running a similar setup to what you are looking to do, except I went with a hi-flow 3rd cat. Im not positive on the numbers, but would assume a hi-flow cat is going to flow better than an OEM cat (even the type-s)?

Everyone always warns people about the PCDs smell, but as my DD i rarely even notice it. Obviously when you open your car up it is there for everyone to smell though

Just be ready for the noise factor, I love my exhaust note and get complimented all the time but I'd be lying if I said it wasnt LOUD (you can hear my car coming around the block)!

I do at least before doing the PCD's. I did the J-Pipe & 3rd cat delete together first, b/c if I remember reading right, the 3rd cat can cause a bit of back pressure, so I would do that before an exhaust.

Also remember that
Race Pipe
Test Pipe
Hi-Flow Cat
are the replacements for the 3rd cat, so you'll have to pick one when you're ready to delete the cat.

Rick, your last posted helped clarify about the race/testpipes & hiflow cat, now it's making sense, thanks for the input. I looked under my car today while changing oil and tranny fluid to look at the components. Rick, what made you go with R-V6 products??

Clew, sounds like you're stoked about your setup. What made you go with xlr8 jpipe instead of RV6 all the way?? And where did you get the mid-muffler delete.

I've narrowed it down to starting with jpipe & testpipe(or Race pipe), now i'm looking into what brands to get. I'm all stock with no intentions on dropping my ride any time soon.

i ordered the xlr8 j-pipe first after reading a lot of threads/ posts. i have no intentions of droppin' my ride either which was the main reason that i chose the xlr8 j-pipe. then i ordered the rv6 test pipe because it looks better (imo), and it was a little cheaper $$. rv6 is the only one who sells pre-cat deletes.

i had it all installed at garage 5 in richmond, bc, canada; they were quite impressed with how nice the parts were and how well they fit. they were asking me where i got them too. i had them do the mid muffler delete.

i just got the rv6 pcd installed. i already have jpipe and hi flow cat , dynomax res and mid muff delete. before i added the pcd my car sounded nice and deep. now after i added the pcd around 3000 rpms i get this really high pitch rice burner sound like those really annoying loud hondas.. is that normal? if i keep accelerating the sound turns back to deep which i like. but how do i get rid of the high tin can sound. at 3000 rpm?

thats normal i have the same problem some what, it all depends on what exhaust system u go wit and if u have any resonators which will take care of that. i went with the high flow resonator where the 3rd cat was, and mine isnt too annoying.
