Pre-Cat Delete // J-Pipe // Race Pipe Questions
hi, ive been on this forum for a couple days now and ive already learned quite a bit.
i went to the dealership the other day and test drove the tl-s. great car, but if there was one thing i had to bug about, its the exhaust note...or lack thereof.
ive read about people replacing parts of the exhaust pipes (precat, j pipe, race pipe, in addition to a catback exhaust) and ive even seen a few videos of it on youtube. however, video cameras fail to do engine noise justice.
so i was wondering a few things:
1. if anyone has done these mods, how does it sound? lets use a g35 coupe exhaust note as comparison (i.e., louder, throatier, more growl, more punch, etc.)
2. does anyone have a diagram of what the underside exhaust setup looks like? id like to see the piping from the headers down to the exhaust and which part replaces what.

Excelerate for the CAI, ATLP or R-V6 for the exhaust stuff since they are the two companies that make it...

I'm hoping to put in just the j-pipe and race pipe as well. I know the race pipe is a pretty simple install, but how difficult is the j-pipe to put in?

the first thing anyone should do is an exhaust on any car.... "we" dont because vtec sounds cooler than an exhaust note. from my experiences with big motor heads they say...."leave the intake alone until your ready for a turbo or supercharger unless you want some extra noises n barely any gains" it does nothing except add noise n "blings" up your engine bay. I did the same thing got the intake first because of vtec.... but the intake also starts to mess with A/F ratios.... that after a few days of driving adjusts itself..... so its no biggie...but you also wanna beat the car up more because its got some cool factor to it now.
i tell people if ur gonna do an intake do an exhaust at the same time, if u want noise n power.....it just makes more sense. the car has enough air coming in so your not making a difference with an intake because its just air coming in its not a turbo or super pushing it in so the air pressure is the same....but if you free up the restricted exhaust you will gain more and have some very sweet sounds coming out......then if the noise doesnt satisfy u and u need more get the intake.

not everyone has the money to slap an exhaust on their ride right away. A CAI gives a modest (at best) hp bump and sounds awesome for pretty cheap $$, so it's a nice place to start.
I myself can't afford to work w/my exhaust and get an intake atm, so I'm gonna do the intake and wait til next summer to do anything else
