Performance difference between a stock TL-S and a fully modded one
Performance difference between a stock TL-S and a fully modded one
Not sure if this is the first thread asking this question or not but...
Are all these mods-pulley, spacer, intake, exhaust, j-pipe-really worth it strictly performance-wise?
Basically, how much faster would a Type-S that has all those bolt-ons be than one that is stock? Does anyone have any definitive 0-60 and 1/4 times (I'm calling out all you guys that have those mods).
Reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously contemplating getting a pulley, exhaust, and j-pipe but if the performance increase is marginal I don't think it'd be worth it. Plus I'm auto
.
AND YES I KNOW THE TL ISN'T A SPORTS CAR BUT I DON'T CARE

Well, if you're wondering if you'll feel the gains ... then yes. J-pipe, test pipe, exhaust, and intake would do wonders ... probably 25 - 30whp+.
After putting on my CT Catback exhaust, intake, pulley, and spacer .. the car is definitely much faster than a stock TL. The gains are relevant for sure.

I don't think this question pertains to only a Type-S so...
I'm running a CAI, J pipe, test pipe and precats (soon)... although I haven't dyno'd the car yet, I definitely felt a "better" throttle response. The acceleration lag is minimized with each "less restricting" mod you install. I haven't raced against a stock TL either but when I get TL loaners, I'm always glad to be back in my own TL, as it feels quicker.
Since I've done my spending for now (maybe
), I will be looking to get a TBS, lighter crank pulley and a catback exhaust by next summer.

Good thread, I've actually been wondering the same thing...
Sorry for the ignorance, but what is the test pipe? I know what the J-Pipe is obviously, but whenever I see someone talking about the ATLP J-Pipe they usually always mention a test pipe along with it. I'm just not really sure what that is...

Yes people, fully bolted TL's can gain 25-30 whp with the mods in my sig. Do some searching. There are TL 6MT's on here dynoing ~250 and TL-S's ~270.
Is it worth it for 2k? For many it's not.

ifirahse, they do indeed make the car much quicker. If you want to check it out first hand we can meet up. I'm in the valley and you're in Beverly hills. I remember when kosstick got his ATLP and AEM intake. I was stock at the time. We did a couple of runs and by 2nd gear he would always pull on me. We are both auto's. Now it's a different story with the modifications that I've got on.

Let me know what works for you. I always love finding an excuse to take benedict canyon to van nuys.

I would say 15-20whp at the most, for all the bolt-ons. I did all the bolt-ons including headers, pullies, Unichip, Thermoblok gaskets, and bored out TB to my 2002 TL-S. For my 2008 TL-S, I'm going to leave it stock as I don't think the bolt-ons are worth the investment for so little gain.
