Pcd/HFPC???

i got the j-pipe installed today, everything was pretty straight forward and fit great (xlr8 v2). but we snapped a stud on each pre cat.... not having any issues with just the 2 bolts for now, and plan on drilling them out in the future. this could also be a good reason for me to get the PCD sooner than planed

how involved is the install process? it looks like it might be a pain.

do you throw any codes with the pcds?? i have heard yes and no.

thanks guys!

Using the innovative new search function in the upper right of my screen, I typed in PCD and came up with this thread, ten down from yours!

I just installed my HFPCs and an RV6 V3 Jpipe yesterday. Not gonna lie it was a pain to install the HFPCs but its very do-able. After all isnt that the fun in modding cars?

you can try using a tool called a stud puller. I have one sitting in my garage that i recently bought but no longer have a use for, i snapped a stud on the back of the manifold while installing my HFPCs. Mine had too little left of the stud to use the stud puller but it sounds like it woud work for you, any pics?

ahh no. the extra 80 bucks is worth the investment. i cant compare it to non ceramic but if you invest 525 on a part why not spend the extra 60-80 for piece of mind ya know? that was my logic. You can always remove them and take them somewhere to get ceramic coated. Or just remove the front one and get that one done since thats the only on people can see

the pcd will throw a code. dtc p0139. the install is pretty easy but you have to be mechanically inclined. i had the pcd and i changed over to the hfpc for the check engine light reason. it smell like leaking fuel all the time.

*ceramic coated HFPC. ceramic coating hfpc will overheat the cat. it will shorten the life of the cat. i got mine uncoated with a custom fab heatshield

Your logic never fails to impress me. Just because YOU had a code does not ultimately mean Joey will get a code. There are loads of people running PCD's code-free. Sometimes you have to mess with the angle on the de-foulers.

my studs on my precats broke off too. simple fix, fix the thread using m10x1.25 tap and buy an oem stud from acura dealership.

Where did you get this information? I thought keeping the heat inside the cat helped them perform better/more efficiently.

Do you have any pics of your custom heatshields?

thanks to all who replied, good info here!

how bad is the smell from the pcds? is it obnoxious, like an old muscle car?

i could tolerate a slight smell, but if its going to stink up my interior i may go another route.

I have PCDs and I got a code having to do with one of the o2 sensors. All I did was lift the car and mess with the o2 sensor wiring for a little bit, reset the light and it's been a year since that code has come back.

I have PCDs and the smell is far from obnoxious. It's very slight but still noticeable for sure. It definitely will not stink up your interior, but when you come to red lights or stop signs and idle for a bit you might be able to smell it a little.

After doing some "spirited driving" and going to a idle you'll definitely be able to smell it.

I don't have any experience with any of my other cars because my TL is the first car I modded and deleted the cats on. The only other cat-less experience I can compare it to was when I was taking hot rod class and we had 350 chevy small blocks installed in t-bucket cars and it only had headers on it. Now that was obnoxious in two ways. The smell and the sound. I kinda liked it though lol

i took my hfpc to a local ceramic coater(specialized coatings) and he refused to coat them because he have seen them burn. he said 1 of 5 cats he coated overheated. i dont have picture but i will soon.

the smell is bad. if your running pcd's and no 3rd cat you will turn your midsize sedan into a fuel smelling bucket. the power is there but it isnt worth the smell, rasp and check engine light.

Really? So tell me why my TL doesn't smell like a 'fuel smelling bucket' after having PCDs and rv6 v3 jpipe for almost a year now? This monkey...
