Obj. Poll: Power? where do you feel it most?
We've all been driving along and punched it. But where do you commonly find the car to be most responsive? Most of the time the car responds nicely, others a little disappointing. My neck muscles were a little sore the first couple of months of driving. If i want to get up and go, i just floor it. Computer or not, the dumb thing should know what i want if the petal is to the floor. BTW, i have AT, and this thead will most likely relate to those with auto.
For me i get a good push around 40, while its still in 4th. floor it, it drops to 3rd and gets up to 5500-6000 rpm. good work out for the neck muscles.
Other times, i floor it and it drops 2 gears. i find that a little bad, cuz of the hesitation and how high the rpms get. also it quickly downshifts- more hesitation. this type of shifting usually happens when i've just gone up a gear, then floor it- thus the double down shift.
Still playing with the ss, so not much i can say there.
So, let me hear where you've found a good area to punch it.

yeah, I feel the most power from 5500 rpm and up. I have a 6sp w/ intake exhaust and sun automotive ground wires and 'voltage stabilizer'. They made a little more usable power at low rpms, but its mostly at the top. I bought comptechs clutch and flywheel, but havent put it in yet. After reading all the horror stories on this website, im afraid to-BUT if and when I do, I imagine the power up top will change to a more broad power spectrum, because of the lightweight flywheel. I put one on my yamaha 250 and man! Instead of going 'rrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvv', now it goes ZING ZING ZING ZING ZING and Im topped out in fifth. Hope its the same in a car!
I haven't red lined my TL as it only has 1000km=600miles on it.
However, I can feel power coming strong from 4500RPM and pass the 4700 where VTEC changes through 5600ish(highest I've gone)
In low speed with sportshift, I can't floor it(it will drop to 1st) or be gentle on gas(it will shift to 2nd before hitting sweet spot). I have to use L to launch the car then go to manual gate.
Otherwise, I have to take the car out to highway and try to hit 5000RPM with 3rd gear but I will have to be careful with cop.

i gotta say, i love my 2nd gear
haha yeah, redlining 3rd gear = 100~ mph w/ 5AT... i've dropped down to 4th on highway going 60-70, and that was just about all i could handle while being safe... i think if i drop down the 3rd at the speed, i'd be landing right in the middle of the vtec range... not something i want to do with the stock rubbers.

I have the 6MT and have redlined mine twice. What happens is the ignition turns off until the rpm's go below redline. In other words, there is a rev limiter.
