no dust brake pads for 6spd 3g????

im looking for a set of brake pads for my tl, and im coming up short. i usually buy the PBR premiums from car quest becasue they really put out absolutly no brake dust. car quest says they have 6 different options for pads with the AT, but nothing for my 6spd. what pads do you all use? do you know of any that are considered " no-dust"? if so, part numbers would be great! thanks in advance to anyone that can help out

Pads are cheaper than Rotors, rather spend just under 100 for pads or 150 to 200 for the type S pads than 200 plus for pads that are going to wear out my rotors sooner by being of harder compound.

i usually run pbr premiums on all my cars, and i have never seen an oz. of dust. pads that dont dust are uncommon, but not imposible to find. so i ordered up wagner's high performance "no-dust" pads yesterday for $41 and some change. installing them tomorrow, and i will be sure to let you guys know how "high performance" they are and if they really put out any dust.

The type-s uses the bremo caliper as does the 04-06 6 speed TL. The base model auto TL's use another pad.

I ordered a set of Hawk Ceramic pads for my 07 Type S from tirerack.com they are not dust free (no brake pad will ever be completely dust free) but they are much better than the factory pads that would leave a thick layer of dust after 100 miles of driving. I have had them on my car for about 1.5 weeks and just shy of 200 miles and there is a fraction of the dust I would normally have... not to mention I was told they would dust a bit more during the break in/bedding in period. Initial and overall bite feel very comparable to the factory pads, I have not wailed on them from any triple digit speeds yet, with the ceramic I expect to give up a bit of fade resistance but I use this car for commuting not as a weekend racer.

I have the Hawk Ceramics too and love them. No squeal or major dust. In fact, if I go three weeks without washing the car, the front wheels look no darker than the rears. With the stock pads the fronts would look gunmetal grey after a week.

When I had my STi, I researched new pads. A respected brake guy highly recommended Wagner ThermoQuiets. They're a step below Hawks, but if your never going to track your car, then you don't really need Hawks. Wagners are quiet, low dust, inexpensive and have better braking grip than OEMs. When it's time for my brake change, I'm going with these. They are a bit hard to find....Rock Auto is one place that stocks them.

I went with Duralast Gold C-Max ceramics from Autozone...$60 with lifetime warranty INCLUDING wear. A one time 60 buck cost was a great selling point to me. OEM pads made the rims dirty after 2 days...now it takes 2 weeks to LOOK dirty. Stopping power is perfect for me and equivalent to stock IMO.

I think I'm going to go with these when the time comes. Can't beat the warranty and I can get them locally. Are they still holding up nicely (dust wise)?

For sure man...it's been 5K miles now (about) and I DID have to regrease the back of them with graphite crc...but it's because I didn't put enough on to begin with. Dust is great and wear is normal. Stopping power is enough for me with some fun driving and mostly daily driving.

- Simply the design and compounds of parts used will make the difference. It seems to be that European cars or cars with Brembo brakes (like my 3G 6MT/Type-S followers have) get the thickest, blackest dust. Often times we think changing the pads is something that will help this issue out. But more than the pads the rotors are of great contributor to dusting. European engineers set up their cars to brake well first, and give little or no concern to the amount of dust produced. The hard pad/soft rotor combo they come up with works great for braking to be sure. However as the rotors wear down (you can see a lip form at the circumference of the disc) the most disgusting black dust is shed all over the wheels! Such is the product of compromise in favor of superior braking!

-Sometimes the car itself will be more dust prone too. Heavier or longer wheelbase cars will have a greater moment of force to the front wheels when braking, thereby requiring greater pressures to actually stop the car. Thus you get more brake dust!

- It has been mentioned a few times that Ceramic pads will dust less. One Brembo cars this is generally true, but not because of that magic "ceramic" buzzword. It is mostly because 1, ceramic pads are softer than semi-metallic pads and wear the rotors down less and 2, because the light tone of ceramic pad dust makes the appearance of dusting less. Ceramic pads are a decent choice for keeping the wheels cleaner, but don't expect the dust to disappear, and certainly don't expect equivalent braking performance.

I'd hope one could come to the conclusion that basically everything on the car is the product of compromise. Better braking = more dusting. Softer pads = dust on wheels comes from pads. Harder pads = brake dust comes from rotors. There is really not a practical combination that will stop dusting altogether though!

Marcus

By the way, in addition to the weight savings you'd get with Racingbrake 2-piece rotors, they are heat treated. Which means they are harder than oem replacement rotors and will wear less, therefore they dust less and the standard rotors!
