Hey Wssup I just recently got a 06 Acura tl base model. I've always owned muscle cars first luxury tuner if yu will haha. I'm looking for More hp,torque etc. A mild racer but I still want that as street sexy look. I know I need to start with cold air intake , exhaust should be my first step ..... Suspension and braking next after step 1 And 2 I'm completely lost .... I'm going to take one step at a time
good point
not sure like I saidpay came from muscle cars going into the tuner but you have a good Point . That's why I'm here on the forum asking for question trying to get all the help I can get and I'm also looking to save money in this project to that's something I can cross off the list for now
I would start with a cat delete J-Pipe, catback exhaust, and intake. Our J-Pipe will net you around 10-15hp and not throw a CEL, and the intake is another 5-10hp. The return on investment with these cars isn't huge but you can squeeze out some extra power. The catback would be mostly for sound, but definitely a fun mod.

Justn stop preaching this BS already. Plenty here on azine and v6p have shown that larger and smoother (for lack of a better term) air intake systems add power on this engine once you start to open up the air ways - not much, but more nonetheless. The stock system is not the best thing around. My girl's freakin Kia has a better stock intake system for crying out loud. Yes the stock system can support added power / flow, but it will not be maxed for performance, period.
And don't you mean if the filter out flows the TB at WOT? Because if it's the other way around, then the filter is the choke point.
OP I suggest you do lots of reading first before buying, especially if you have an auto and not a 6spd.

he wants a first mod.
you just said "air intake systems add power on this engine once you start to open up the air ways."
so, if he hasnt opened up any of the other areas the intake would be pointless at this stage, no?
and yes, i made a mistake...the filter out flows the stock throttle body.
So, why spend ~$200 on an air intake if he hasnt opened up any of the other areas???

I agree on the order of things but he did mention adding an exhaust as well, and he's here to learn, so from that point of view we should be telling him hey you need to open things up on both sides, intake + exhaust, because the bottom line is no single bolt on mod is going to give you that much of a gain by itself, you need to do full intake full exhaust. If you're just looking for noise, then cut the stock intake / exhaust systems up and save $$. But you always start with keep stock system a CAI does nothing etc and that's simply not true.
Plus as I've mentioned before, we all spend $1,000 for an exhaust system that avg what 10hp, and no one complains about that, but all of a sudden $200-$300 for a CAI that gets at least the same $ / hp ratio (2-3) and has shown 5-10hp on the dyno is a problem? I agree that now a days these things are way over priced but it's still not the worst offender $ / hp wise, and anyone can Mickey Mouse a DIY CAI on a budget or get an airraid. Many of us also spend this $ on exhausts and intakes for noise purposes and not all about power. The J series sounds great and that alone is great man medicine after a tough day at work. No need to do 100mph, just turn the radio down and enjoy the tunes.
An aftermarket CAI also opens up the engine bay for better breathing / cooling, and saves around ~8lbs over the stock 2 miles of plastic tubing.

I've seen CAI by themselves lose power in the low range and gain up top. An extra 5hp up top is not going to win races. It will still come down to who gets the jump first or best launch. Same can be said for a cat back by itself on this car. So what, means nothing. Open up the whole intake and exhaust, that's what needs to happen (+ a tune), so each should plan accordingly to what you want and at your budget. If you cannot afford to open up the whole thing, choose what's best for you. There's no right or wrong answer here. Each individual option has been documented, discussed and debated here on Azine and v6p.

we both agree that the whole system needs to be opened up in order to get that aftermarket CAI working at optimum.
the only reason why I state to start else where; is because the fellas state: "im not looking to spend" or "i'm looking to spend the least amount"
so, that's why I always start off with "save your money and leave stock intake system alone, first"
as the $:hp ratio isnt justified for a CAI starting off.

Honestly I have seen this argument on more than 1 thread lmao. I did the CAI first followed by PP runners, intake manifold and maxbore TB waiting on my rv6 setup TD exhaust jpipe with xmerge and HFPC . After that a tune from flash pro and I will be happy. After its all said and done sh should be breathing a hell of a lot better than stick. Op this is what I'm dong. I'm not saying copy me in how I'm doing it this was from a significant amount of research that I'm doing these mods. You will find a taste of your own. Oh and the exhaust would have been the first thing but hand made one of kind pieces take time
At this point I'm saving for performance parts if my mods are going to be 6 months apart from each other lol I'll do it .... I'm just trying to head in the right direction my pockets are not as deep as others .... But thank you
