Need Clutch Advice

I am 99% certain my clutch needs to be replaced. It has started revving high and is sluggish from 1st to 2nd to 3rd until it slowly catches. It's manageable and drive able currently but I'm not going to push it till I'm stranded some where.

With that being said I will obviously be buying a new clutch soon. My question(s) are, since I need to buy a new one anyway I mine as well upgrade. I'm not a street racer and I am not looking to pay out the wazoo. Just a solid, cost effective, and upgraded clutch.

My 2006 TL is the first Manual Trans car I have had since in quite some time and this is the first time I am handling a clutch replacement so I am in the dark here.

Any recommendations from personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Spec, XLR8 or clutchmasters + AASCO. Get both a clutch + light weight flywheel.

Stay with a stock clutch, the upgraded options are 3-4 times as expensive as the stock replacement. If you are not running additional power and don't need a more conventional clutch setup, the stock clutch is the way to go. If you are interested in the improved feel of a better clutch and have $1200 to spend, look at the aftermarket options listed in the post above.

I would recommend staying with a stock clutch and flywheel. If you have a lot of miles on the current flywheel, then you should replace that too. You can get the OEM LuK parts (clutch and flywheel) from Carolina Clutch for a quite reasonable price.

Personally I don't think the gearing in the TL trans is suitable for a lighter flywheel. Just my

Works fine here. 14lbs isn't bad at all, it's not the same as an 8lb flywheel.

Maybe a lighter flywheel is OK. I'm basing my opinion on a non-ideal J35 setup. The AASCO flywheel is a good choice.
Keep in mind that a Spec flywheel requires a Spec clutch, so you can only use the clutches that they offer. Also, I had a Spec setup that had multiple issues, so I cannot recommend them.

I just got a quote from a place to do the work. Clutch kit, labor, and Flywheel (just in case it needs to be changed) 2,451.00. That's seems really high!! Is that ludicrous? If that's accurate I'm in deep s**t..

Walk away. This should be a $600-$800 on avg for labor only from an independent mechanic, not sure what a dealer would charge. So labor + parts (aftermarket) should be around $2,000 or less. If you're strapped for cash then just replace the clutch with another factory one, should be around ~$1,000 parts and labor, give or take. Shop around.

Where are you located?

Buy your own parts and find the best rates for labor. Otherwise they'll rip you off on the parts on top of the labor.

^^ what FamilyGuy said.

The OEM parts are made by LuK and you can get the same parts aftermarket.

Clutch kit: Acura Stock Replacement Clutch Kit || Carolina Clutch and Performance, Inc

Flywheel: Honda Accord Oe Replacement Flywheel || Carolina Clutch and Performance, Inc

If you need something cheap, I have a complete clutch/flywheel setup from a 2006 TL Sport that I'll sell you.
It has 75k miles and looks fine. I only bought it for comparing to other TL flywheels and clutches.
