i installed a magnaflow exhaust. i swapped out the resonator, removed the middle muffler and swapped the two rear mufflers. my original intent was to change the exhaust tone, not to increase horsepower. i am currently putting together a larger system made from polished ss. magnaflow does not make a catback system, so you will have to get a muffler shop to build it. have not dynoed my car.
the mufflers that i currently have on my TL are not offered in ss, the new ones i am putting on are (im using their polished 4" round mufflers with tip). what i like about the small mufflers is that i had plenty of room to work with the bend and retain the stock look because i welded on the stock tips to the new mufflers.

Part numbers: Rear mufflers 11365
Resonator 10436 (used the longer resonator to control sound)

If you do a search I believe the pictures I took are still up. If not, pm me and ill email them to you if you are interested.

whhaaaaattttt? Comptech gives you 5hp for a 'G' from your wallet. why would you possibly buy something other?

check out this toyota thread, talks about open exhaust with magnaflow

right, that why i went with magnaflow. i put my whole system together for under 200 bucks (get cost and did the install myself) i am never going to pay a grand for a cat back system because you can have them built for much less.

yeah just swap out the rear mufflers, thats what i had originally. the tone was deeper but still pretty quiet. the resonator just smooths out the raspy tone that can come about with aftermarket, higher flow mufflers.

it's only 10hp when they have the crack pipe burning.

they're lucky to get 5hp. the open mufflers reduce some backpressure in the system allowing the motor to breathe easier.

Did you use OEM pipe sizes? Also, did you retain the third Cat?

yeah i used the oem piping, i didnt think i would gain much by using a bigger size and didnt want to involve myself in the hassle of bending all new pipe. i kept the third cat, its stupid not to for several reasons, especially in california. huge fines, weird sounds, pollution, pain in the ass to reinstall before smog, etc.

exhaust cost me about 170 dollars (i get cost on the parts) and i installed it myself...i work at a shop and have all the stuff needed (bender, welder, etc). i paid cost on k&n intake (200 bucks) which i now realized it too much because you can get the AEM for cheaper...sway bar was little over 100 bucks. I did the exhaust because I wanted a different sound to the TL, I wasnt looking to increase performance...I did the CAI because I was bored. I havent noticed any huge gains in performance, maybe a little more responsive and easier going up long inclines on the freeway, but overall not too much. the magnaflow setup that i have on the car now sounds pretty damn good, everyone who has heard it says it came out well. im in the process of building another, fully stainless steel magnaflow system, but that wont be done until middle of the summer.

ive only heard the comptech exhaust twice...once when i was at comptech and they were looking at my exhaust, and the second through a sound byte that was posted by the guy who gave me his stock system. they sound similiar...slight tonal differences i guess would be the easiest way to distinguish the two exhausts. they both sound good, its just i didnt have a grand to spend on exhaust because i want the aspec suspension and i have bragging rights to say that i built my own.
