Looks Or Performance? That Is The Question!

I have a bone stock 08TL and not sure if I want looks or performance. I was looking at getting a J-pipe with the stock exhaust or getting the blacked out grill and tinted windows..what do you think?

Black out grill is pointless IMO especially when you have no other mods. Get the tint then the A SPEC kit. Then get a suspension (a look + performance mod) then buy all Performance options.

it ultimately comes down to what the OP needs/wants.

in Texas, I had to get tint to combat the heat.
but my first performance mod was the Jpipe.

so, OP, do whatever the fuck you want/need.

These types of threads asking what should I do are fucking pointless....Because the OP will probably go in a different direction than what he was advised. Just do whatever teh fuck you want. /rant

If I would do it all over again, all looks. The TL is a terrible platform for performance.

Get what makes you happy because you know in the end you will most likely get it all anyway. Personaly i would go tint first, then A-Spec, then go for the J-Pipe and exhaust.

I do not like the large silver grill with chrome "A". I only like my paint to shine. Looks are good because that is what everyone sees, and living down in Key West, tint would be nice.

Avoid large heavy rims (19"+), overly low springs/coilovers, most big brake kits, and a big sub box and you can have both looks and performance.

To make this car "fast" it will take a hell of a commitment to learn and a nice financial support. I am on the same boat as erik3. Show < go!! Gl

i wanted to see what people where doing. Then you guys where bringing up some good words and has me thinking looks over speed...already 'faster' than the civic I had, but i got the TL to be a sexy adult cruiser, not supercharged racer...though that would be badass if my pockets where deep enough. being in the Navy, pockets are not that deep.

i gotta 08 nbp base tl also. everything i done so far is for looks but within the next 2 months i'll be installing my ht-spec coilovers, progress rear sway bar, xlr8 j-pipe, and injen cai.

so i guess you can say i did "focus" on looks at first. after i get those 4 mods installed i was thinking about getting a HFC along with a stock size UR pulley. deciding between HFC + stock size UR pulley or get headlights + tail lights customized.

hmm..

Well, it sounds like you want to go aesthetics then. Tints are the best first mod. After that, an Aspec Kit really makes a Base TL look awesome. Those are strong 1-2 mods for aesthetic upgrades.

maybe its just me, but i would get tint, exhaust and intake, then looks. sort of pointless to do any other performace mods to such heavy fwd car.

IMO, get the darkest tint possible first. Then maybe some rims. I don't think you'll notice much 'go' with just those parts.

Looks. The TL isn't a fast car unless you Turbo it anyway.

or get a set of New Tires.

Here's what i did in the following order

Wheels (looks)
Tint (looks)
Neuspeed Springs and Koni Shocks (Performance)
Intake (Performance)
Aspec Kit along with ATLP Quads and J-pipe (Looks + Performance)
Rear deck lid spoiler (Looks)

My thing is, don't make it look sporty when you have no performance mods to back it up. Tints and wheels don't make a car look faster, so I did that first. But once I wanted to do the springs and aspec, I made sure I got the performance stuff in there as well.

What are your recommendations for where to get a a-spec (for a good price).

Nooo, not to that point. Our roads are paved but due to the high traffic some areas really sucks! No disrespect to the DR, those guys know how to treat the tourists, and have really beautiful places and resorts for really good prices.

Do a little bit of both.

I have a 05 TL and I started off with:

Performance:
Progress RSB
eibach pro kit with koni yellows
k&n drop in
tanabe medalion cat back

Looks:
OEM 08 Taillights
ASpec kit
OEM 08 TL mirrors

I agree with most of the guys on here...Go with tint first and you don't have to go really dark. Then go for performance. I have an 08 TL-S and I got the tint and now I'm saving for the Jpipe. I might even get the race pipe or met cat at the same time. Haven't decided yet.
