wow that's awful. makes my tint ticket I got this weekend seem like absolutely nothing.
How's insurance work on cars like kikazz's. I'm assuming it only covers the base value of the car. So not including the ~30k he put into it.... unless he let his insurance know the actual value of it. I'm really curious as to how it works out.
I guess the engine is ok and that's the majority of the money but geez. Respect for taking out the car instead of innocent people. Probably saved lives with that decision.

Glad hes ok, but I would like to hear the real story and what his plans are. As handsom said, he can buy a base car and swap everything over and use the extra to put into brakes and other little mods he didn't have.

The issue is going to be the ileagal mods made to the car and how to get those back. Most ins companys won't let you remove items from the car especially the engine unless you buy the car back which kills some of the ins pay out. I know people with heavily modded cars who have had the ins company completely deny the claim in a crash. Taking part in a speed contest or operating a vehicle out of compliance with state or local laws is most often the excuse.

You have to be extremely careful in a car that can close distance that quick as KN said. Other drivers already suck and can't judge speed or distance. They're not expecting a car that's 100' back to accelerate past them in a second or two. I had that problem with bikes, they always take off hard, I take of right next to them seeing if they want to go and they practically change lanes into me not expecting a car to be right there. Technically it's their fault but I do my part by either not staying next to them or getting out in front so they see me. 550hp is enough that if a driver looked over his shoulder to change lanes and the TL was sitting a few cars back going the same speed, he could floor it and be next to the driver before the lane change was over and there would be a wreck. Glad no one was seriously injured.

I'm sure kikazz isn't very happy right now but fortunately he's alive and well from the accident , what happen was just unfortunate ihc car put it best we have to respect the power we've unleashed from these tl when boosted as its a total different car when done correctly ,kikazz made the right decision he was badly cutoff by another driver and instead of risking hurting any pedestrians or anything he ran into a pole which saved him as well as other people around so kudos to him because last thing we want to here is that a modified Tl has injured someone , right now I just fell a bit sad for him as he put a lot of effort and time into the build which helped us to push the limits of the Tl and show people these cars are more than capable of been a monster but yet still luxury .....
All I can do now is try to sell most of the parts as the motor and trans are still in good shape ...

Was there speeding involved? I assume this was on a highway? Local streets of the traditional 30mph limit with drivers cutting people off doesn't have a high probability of totaling a car (was his car in fact totaled?) It seems like we still don't have a lot of information but let's just hope he wasn't roaring his turbo, speeding on the highway.

When you put money in a car the insurance companies require you to have receipts and show them what you put into it because your insurance rate will rise to cover that stuff. Same thing when rims get stolen, they send you a check for what the stock ones are worth and don't replace the after market ones. My buddy had his STI stolen with 30k of work and things stolen, they replaced it all with stock parts because he never notified the insurance company that he had those parts for them to cover. What he can or should do is buy the car back from his insurance company though.

Obviously someone with a fully bolted TL has maybe like.. 2-4k in aftermarket parts so it's not a huge deal. Someone with 30k like your friend... yea they should probably have it insured.

Yea that's pretty much what I thought. I guess it's a choice whether to tell them and have higher rates or risk losing the aftermarket stuff.

We don't know that as we should let kickazz tell us the real deal. Even the slightest bend in the frame an insurance company would total it as I have seen that before because that isn't "fixable". It all depends on how bad the car is, but for all else to say how he is ok and not "he got into a fender bender", I am assuming there is quite some damage.
I have been cut off before and thankfully there was either no one in the left lane when I quickly switched or that I didn't upgrade by brakes because those things saved me many times.
Also as OP said, if it is totaled some insurance companies don't let you touch the car unless you buy it back. My buddy had a mustang GT with some after market parts on it and they wouldn't let him swap/take off the parts because it was in the hands of another company since he didn't buy it back. It also depends if he had it towed to his house which he may have time to swap all parts before insurance company picks it up if it was totaled.
I would buy it back because its worth more than parts since not all 30k is in parts. As I remember, he put around half that into research and development plus labor/flying rodney out.

^the real money was in the engine build thats why i meant. sorry my statement was pretty vague
edit: also kickass will have to buy the car in order to get the engine because what insurance company will buy the car without the engine

As long as he has receipts to prove the recent work he is covered. most insurance companies have a grace period of about 2 weeks to report modifications so he may be in the clear with receipts.
If not..buying the car is always an option and you can negotiate the buy-back

Does NY law say you have to make a claim? If the car is paid for or even if it isn't, the amount he just put in has to be more than the totaled cost of the car.
And if he can afford to put that kind of coin into it in the first place, he may not even need to worry about the money involved.

^didnt read the thread ftl.....
-palm face.
-shake your head.....in shame.
cliffs.
-Rodney built turbo for member kickazz
-Rodney had a little trouble(but with all car projects you do run into some kind of trouble)
-Used the new ECU to tune and successfully made ~550whp.
-very streetable.
-The plan was to push it to the limit...600whp
-an unfortunate accident happened.

It might be a little early for humor. Maybe when the owner gets on here and starts cracking jokes about his wreck, everyone else can. I can only imagine how bad he must feel besides the physical pain, dumping that kind of time and money into it to have it all taken away in an instant.
