K&N compared to AEM V2

I am looking for some ideas about the differences between these two intakes. They both seem to provide about the same power increase. I know different cars, but they are both on a 3.5ltr engines.

K&N 69-1210TS

And the AEM V2.

If I do get the K&N I am planning to get a 3.5" velocity stack to add to the end of the pipe in the air box. BPI has a nice Assembly kit, http://www.bpinitiatives.com/assemblies.php#asm35601.

Same difference. Whatever one you can find a better deal on. Don't go by the gains you see. CAI on our cars will yield about a 1-2HP gain, if that.

K&N cracks me up with their power claims. Kinda like the guy who told me his Challenger R/T now makes the same power as the SRT because he installed one.

Another CAI thread. Same answer as usual.

Doesn't matter which one. Only thing you really gain is some sound and a 2-5 HP gain (if any).

Our stock intake is pretty good. No real gains from an intake unless F/I.

So I assume you just saved you money since you don't believe the dyno graphs and removed you resonator right? Because why pay 2-400 bucks for something that cant be done for free (in your mind). Right? .

Sounds like a little disapointment in the past. Do you guys have dynos or some other kind of documentation of these minimal gains?

I the case of my Integra I know that just adding a Velocity Stack on my CAI can yeild between 4-7whp. Lots of dynos and first hand experience from others.

Just to make sure I am NOT adding a K&N into the stock air box it is the K&N pipe and filter kit.

That's exactly what I did. Just need to replace the stock paper filter with a K&N drop in as well.

HA HA... I'll take the 14hp/14tq (Takeda) over that set-up any day but we're all entitled to do what we want to our cars... You're car looks great by the way.

There are about 429,938 threads on cold air intake, and I am not wasting my time looking through all of them for an answer. If you searched first, rather than making yet another CAI thread, you would have found the answer.

You're right there are a ton of threads but they lack an abundance of good information. Many questions in these posts but no answers. I have asked before for just a simple dyno of someone’s results of just the AEM Intake, nothing.
So I took my search to Google, still nothing of value. Found lots of pictures.

I found more useful information about the Takeda intake during my searching.

It seems a bit problematic when it seems everyone says get this intake but no one can prove or show why. If it is the best there should be a bunch of graphs and data out there proving that case.
Maybe it’s not the best?

maybe intakes are not the best bang for the buck.
I'd be hard pressed to spend 300 bucks on something that you say produces 4-7hp when you can spend a hundred more and get a jpipe that produces 15whp and has been proved with dynos

I didn't mod the TL for this reason. It get's pretty expensive just for a few HP. Now my STI on the other hand..

OMG some of you dont get it. The STI owner would i'm sure. Why do exhaust mods when you're not bringing in added are for the new bigger exhaust to flow? The j-pipe+hi-flow cats (str8 pipes even more power) with intake (which adds to exhaust the added intake air will gain 35-40hp on 3rd gen TL. The stock exhaust is actually good minus the stock cats. Adding exhaust only adds 8-9 more h.p. So to think the intake does nothing is false. The intake does little by itself... maybe but it adds much needed 14ft/lbs down low which is the J32/53's weak point. It's everything combined that gets you very good h.p./dollar. If you're not willing to pay, Just take out stock intake resonator and think you're going faster because its making more noise...ha ha!!!

This is a picture of the intake from K&N I am planning on getting. I will replace the filter with a different K&N filter and use the velocity stack.

i have the same intake from k&n but i extended it to a CAI instead of the shortram. theres no doubt that is sounds better, and the gains? i am not sure. when i drive my gf's TL w/o the CAI, it feels slower than mine with the CAI. It can be all in my head or i actually got a big gain, not sure. But i wouldn't pay $200+ for it. I got mine for free in a raffle. I get 20% - 30% off K&N merchandise btw.
