K&N on 07 type s...
K&N on 07 type s...
anyone using one on their type s....i just ordered one, but was curious to what kind of results people are having....i am not expecting much, but maybe a 1 mpg and maybe a slightly louder intake....
K&N does not make a CAI to fit the '07 TL-S. As you may have read in this section, the K&N comes as a convertible short/long ram. I also have a P2R thermoblock spacer and gaskets, which add 1 1/2"length. I do not know how the long ram CAI will fit. It may be just fine. I used the short ram version that I had originally on my '05 as a long ram, and ran into clearance problems with the battery (I decided against using the long ram on my '07). I purchased a Braille battery, which is much smaller and lighter. The best feature of the short ram is that it is longer than most short rams, and actually curves down into the space just above the factory cold air intake piping, once the filter box is removed. Due to this, it minimizes sucking hot engine air, which would negate any hp increase. I feel the hp increase is substantial with my setup. I ran the P2R with the stock intake, and then a drop-in K&N, and I could feel a slight torque increase with either filter. The drop in doesn't seem to make any difference over the stock filter to me.
My A/T actually chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift using the paddles and the VSA turned off now. The hp increase is real, and substantial IMO. It is no louder than stock until the vtec comes to come into play, which is just the way I wanted it

Maybe the OP actually meant the drop-in K&N filter. That's how I first read it. If so, then you won't experience any gain in performance, IMO. Whatever you do gain will be negligible. Regarding sound, the same thing. The drop-in filter just won't make that much of a difference. If the OP actually DID mean the K&N CAI, then disregard.
Regarding having the P2R TB Spacer, along with a CAI, I've noticed the 3 major brands work: AEM, Fujita, Injen. I got mine to fit with no fitment issues. Now with the K&N CAI, I cannot comment, as I don't have experience with those.

When the OP said "louder", I just thought "CAI"
This is twice this week you have picked up on things that I totally overlooked.
The first one was the reset code on the radio and Nav.
After seeing your Avatar, I'm beginning to think you're my "guardian angel"
To the OP, as stated, don't expect any measureable change with the K&N drop-in.
Sorry.

so far, acording to the mid, i am getting 2 more mpg average...i was averaging 22mpg, now 24...that is about what i was expecting...i cant tell if performance is better because the car already screams....like i said before, i knew right off the bat that i would see some kind of change just by looking at the two filters side by side...now i might just have to see about removing that resonator....

None of us are experts as to the internal workings and computer gadgetry built into these engines, so I just utilize the mathematics. I am trying not to check gas mileage EVERY time I fill up, but I do most of the time. My '05 consistently showed an extra 2-3 mpg after installation of the CAI. Now my '07 has only had the install for 1 1/2 weeks, and I haven't had the opportunity to check over a good period of time. So far, I haven't seen an increase either from the MID or actual.
If it happens, I won't try and figure it out, but I will know it's real.
I do know that there IS a hp increase, which means added efficiency, which should equate to better mpg.
