Has anyone here swapped a J37A1 intake into a 3.2 base TL? I've seen various youtube videos and it seems only the J37A1 has the intake air temperature sensor on the manifold but the rest of the J37s don't.
Wondering how important the location of the IAT sensor is.
Most will extend the IAT wire so it can be located on the Air Intake, the AEM V2 provides a bung for it to screw into. Then the Intake manifold is plugged.
If I had a choice I'd opt for putting it on the air intake, as this will register lower temperatures due to heat soak from the intake manifold. Heat soak won't be as pronounced as the Cold Air Intake as it's not directly connected to the engine.
Yeah but wouldn't I have to drill a hole and put in the IAT sensor if I was planning on keeping the oem intake box, I personally don't think the AEM cold air intake adds any performance. Wondering who has drilled a hole in their intake for this.
there is another option that doesn't involve making a hole in the intake. get a j35a8 manifold, it has the iat sensor provision. I believe its 68mm opening at the inlet, but can be ported a bit.
yeah I know what you mean, I could go with the J35 but I'd prefer J37.
Anyone here drilled a hole in their 3.7L manifold for the IAT? Just wanted to know some tips or if anyone has suggestions on how you drilled and tapped threads I'm assuming?

why prefer j37 mani? The j35a8 manifold is magnesium and these sources say that they flow basically the same as the j37 for cheaper. But if you decide on getting the j37 throttle body for whatever reason, then might as well get j37 mani too. Because you’d have to port match the j35 mani and get an adapter plate, which would probably be more expensive than buying a j37 manifold
