get the XLR8 one, more power from the same mod, however if you do get the test pipe you loose a a bit of low end torque so starting off will take slightly longer...

I have the RV6 Version 2 with the resonated test pipe combo on my '05 5AT. I do not have any other engine mods. Mid-range torque between 2200-4500rpm is definitely noticeable. Off the line is slower though from a stop. I used to be able to spin the front tires (245/40/18 Goodyear Eagle GT A/S) from a stop no problem, but now I can barely do it at all unless its wet out. This can probably be attributed to the test pipe, but once you get going, you'll feel more torque/grunt throughout the mid-range power band. I consider the gains to be daily driving usable power as we're not always revving to red line. I live on very steep hills in Seattle and it has made the difference of being able to cruise up in 3rd gear vs having to be in 2nd gear to build enough torque. This torque bump made my car feel almost no different than driving my cousin's 08 TL-S 5AT. If you get the test pipe too, the car does have a slightly deeper tone that will growl on WOT.

I'm curious to see what it would feel like if I put the OEM 3rd cat back in but that's just too much work just to test. For the value and quality, I'd recommend RV6's pipes any day despite not being as better flowing as the others.

Great thread!! What if I were to ask, what parts of my exhaust are bolt on?? I can and I want to change everything that is bolt on, since my stupid warranty wont allow me to do otherwise. Chiefly, I'm looking for a nice sound, and than some hp gains.

Thanks!

You should be able to beat him stock...

XLR8 and ATLP have very similar designs. As Inaccurate said the XLR8 has slightly longer primaries, so the gains should be slightlyyy more. The downside is the XLR8 is not slammed friendly. 2" or more you may scrape.

The ATLP V2 is slammed friendly and may be 1hp shy of the XLR8. Will you feel the difference? Probably not.

RV6 is slammed friendly, yet does not have the merge collector or "Y" pipe, so the gains will be a little less. Hope this helped.

Mods should make a 'Jpipe' sticky, there's more questions about them than why we let Bush in the Whitehouse

I put the XLR8 J-pipe on my otherwise stock '08 TL-S. I am not trying to turn this into a performance car; I own two sports cars and one race car for that, I just wanted to improve a nice daily driver. Seat of the pants, feels more torque low end and a little exhaust burble at idle; I would buy it again. Fit was perfect, no rattles, though I was surprised that for $400 you don't get gaskets, told to use red RTV which I did with hesitation but so far no leaks.

I know some of you mentioned the bolts being rusted, which makes it a real PITA to get them off. Try spraying some PB Blaster on them and let it soak in for a while. It works wonders.

I got an Xlr8 with a resonated rv6 test pipe and the power diff. is def. noticable and an big improvement. plus it took away some of my drone from my custom cat-back. Great MOD.

since the xlr8 j-pipe sits lower than stock and ATLP/RV6 does it need removal of the plastic panels on the under sideof teh car? Will I need to cut or shape the plastic panels and will the lower sitting xlr8 j-pipe mess with aerodynamics?

^ Yes, it will be hard to control rasp with PCD.

The PCD are BEASTLY :devilgrin

It will be hard to hide the beast. Not impossible if you work on it. It will require one or two large resonators to totally eliminate the rasp.

If you are running a third cat, you probably can get away with one large resonator.

If you have a loud catback (for example, Greedy) and no third cat, you for sure will need two large resonators.

new j pipe, $400, new resonator $40, mid muffler delete + resonator install at muffler shop, $don't know. How much more money would it be to pay a muffler shop to make me a true dual exhaust?

It will depend on the shop.
