Intake question...

What's the difference between short ram and a regular intake? I'm thinking of getting either AEM or Injen, but they also have the short ram versions. What's that?

short ram is shorter than the normal one...the filter stays in the engine bay instead of extending down low to the groubd out of the engine bay...there are pros an dcons for each...the normal cold air intake pulls in cooler air which = more power but when it rains u have risk of suckin in water ( NOT GOOD) and the short ram is in the engine bay which has warmer air which = less hp gain than the cold air but you dont have to worry about sucking water up when it rains or when goin through puddles or whatever...hope this answered your question

If your afraid of sucking air in with the cold air...AEM makes a bypass valve that close when moisture is present to prevent water/ moisture to gettin into the motor...it attaches in the engine bay between the two pipes of the intake...so look into that if you want

^-has anyone put the bypass valve on the intakes for the 04+?

unless you plan on driving through deep puddles without your splash guards on I wouldnt worry about hydrolock or anything and go with the least expensive CAI

If you are worried about that, go with the K&N as you can have it as both a short ram and a CAI

this requires cutting your new CAI in half to add this part. the bypass lowers the overall HP a CAI adds, which is minimal to begin with.
The only time you really need to worry about hydrolocking an engine is when a portion and/or the whole filter element is submerged in water.
My advice, go with a CAI without bypass if you live in an area where flooding is not an issue.

I've narrowed my choices to either Injen or Fujita. I've read that Fujita might give a bit more HP because it's a one piece while the Injen is two??? Is that correct?

You will not notice any hp gains. It will be louder, Thats about it. Now with intake AND exhaust you might feel some hp gains, but intake alone you won't notice a thing.

I know they say you gain 5-10 hp but in reality that just doesn't happen. I have a short ram intake because they are generally louder than the Cold Air Intake, but the CAI will give you more hp just because the air is cooler!!

Good luck with your choice

Injen and Fujita are basically the exact same thing with a different filter on the end. Personally...I recommed the AEM unit....and I have had em both on there...the Injen and the AEM.

Here is my review on those two units and why I recommend AEM.

BTW...both are ONE piece units on the CAI.
