I'm between 3 exhaust systems...HELP!
Hey 'Ziners,
ATLP Base, XLR8 Resonated, or Comptech? That is the question...
Looking for some input on this one. I really want an exhaust after hearing some of the sweet sounds they produce on our cars, and a little hp/tq boost couldn't hurt either. Only problem is, I'm not too sure of which one to get. Main opinions I'm looking for are from those of you who have everything else stock (j-pipe, pre-cats, etc) except the cat-back system...hoping there are some of you out there....PLEASE HELP!! I'm looking for more of a subtle exhaust overall (daily driver), growling during higher revs is great, but I want it to be quieter at 1-3k rpm. Love how the ATLP looks, especially with the base Aspec. Comptech sounds great from what I've heard, and the XLR8 sounds good too, but I haven't been able to find many resonated clips. All input is appreciated. Thanks guys!

i have stock everything except catback. being biased, i will tell you to get the ATLP base for sure. the first couple days are grueling but that is just because it's breaking in but after a week or two..its just sex. thats all i can describe it as. its not loud only when you stomp on it or quickly accelerate from 1.5k to 3-4 for those short bursts but at idle, it's a nice burrr and nothing overwhelming. i love it, i'd never trade it, and i'd suggest it for anyone looking for a similar setup (pretty similar, stock is fairly common
) i'm sorry i can't chime in too deep on xlr8 but comptech i'd assuming is going to be really quiet after it breaks in with stop jpipe and all cats etc (stock)
tldr: ATLP

all 3 will sound around the same... so it is all about looks... xlr8 and comptech looks wise are very similar... atlp is unique, and the tip is stock-similar, that being said its stealthier of the 3... hope this quick synopsis helps

If this is your daily driver and you are concerned about how quiet it is at 1-3k rpm, I would consider Comptech or Tanaube without question. I say this because you specifically mentioned a concern about loudness at low RPM. I think I recall a few guys selling their systems due to loudness and purchased the Comptech... an expensive lesson.
If I was you, I would satisfy my urge with a J-pipe first and go from there.
You may want to see if anyone in your area will give you a demo of their catback system.

A j-pipe will not satisfy your needs for a change in sound or tone of the exhaust. Only a catback system will. In your case, I would say go for tanabe or comptech catback exhaust as either of the two should satisfy your needs for loudness, drone and performance. Those were also my criteria when choosing an exhaust as I almost went the atlp route however it was nice looking and performed well but too loud for my tastes and daily driving experience. Hence.I chose comptech and couldn't be happier with the overall quality and performance of this exhaust. Keeps the TL luxurius, classy and sporty. My $.02

I would agree with most of the posts. I just thought i would chime in because i have XLR8 and no one has commented on it. I love mine but it also is non-res and is not to loud but definitely noticeable any time you hit the throttle. If your looking for that sexy purr then I would def recommend it but if low rpm noise in the cabin isnt your cup of tea then go with one of the tamer exhaust like the other members have suggested. What ever you choose good luck!

Thanks for the input so far guys...think Comptech is leading the way right now and the free ship from Heeltoe definitely is a plus, but I'm still researching a little bit. Feel free to chime in if you have an opinion on this! Definitely will post pics of whatever I end up getting...although it may not be until August (probably).

Get the CT/Tanabe if you want a mild exhaust note that is somewhat throaty at WOT but not intrusive in the cabin.
Get the ATLP/XLR8 if you want to hear your exhaust and don't mind some in cabin noise and if you want the most hp and exhaust flow.

I have the same exact dilemma. But I also have to look for tips that are don't look pushed in because the RJ rear bumper is beefy.
Which would give more deep bass sound. Kind of like there is silencer but there is not.
tihomirbg, there is a video on an ssm TL with the RJ kit all around and a comptech exhaust. Ill find it and send you the link. I believe the video has closeups with the setup so you can get both a visual and somewhat decifer the tone on the CT catback...ill post here when I find as well

Also to the OP you do realize that most people posting in this forum are going to recommend the exhaust they have on their car. They want to believe the exhaust they have is the best and so they reinforce that by recommending it to you. There's nothing wrong with any of the exhausts; they are all great exhausts. You just have to decide which is best for you based on what you're looking for in terms of power, sound, and appearance.
You do realize that the tip we use is a double walled tip; therefore it's the same size as the CT. The outer rim of the tip is angled and rolled to give it a better appearance.

It may be a good idea to reach out to one of the local Acurazine guys in your area... most of us don't mind giving demos.
