How to stop AEM V2 from rubbing

i recently bought a used AEM V2 right here from Azine and there is a little groove from rubbing on the rear, lower side (in terms of closer to the ground). it faces the rear end of the car. i know rubbing is an issue with these and the TL but i dont know if every one has rubbing in the same place.

has anyone developed a minor handyman mod to stop the rubbing?

if you can please explain and post pics you would help tons of people on here

you're talking about when the intake goes through the hole to the fender right?

I put one of those paddings that you put on the bottom of chair legs that prevent scratches on the floor. works perfect, no rubbing, holds well. i bought a pack of like 5 or so but only used 2(1 for me and 1 for a friend). i can send you one for like $2

just realized ur in CA, come pick one up if you're in socal.

not sure which area you are talking about thats rubbing.

i made a little bracket out of sheet metal and affixed it as shown. not sure if this is the area you are having an issue with or not.

where did u put it on the part that it rubs on or the CAI itself? im thinking i need to put some type of cuson on what the CAI is rubbing on because if i put a cusion in the intake it will most likely cut through it if it was already cutting into the metal on the CAI

i dunno, it just holds the intake in place. otherwise, it would just be free-floating around down there which i did not like. the bracket keeps it in one spot and doesn't allow it to move around.

I think most people just put some sort of padding or felt down there where it rubs, thats what I plan to do with mine anyways when it comes in.

I put a nice sized peice of the "loop" side of Velcro there to keep my CAI from rubbing. Seems to work OK.

so the AEM v2 rubs in the bumper area? cause the place im getting my CAI installed told me that the AEM v1 intake rubs with the 07-08 models in the fog light housing area. Don't know if that will happen with V2

I can't speak to the V2 specifically. But most of the intakes are very close to, or resting near the fog light housing on the '07 and '08.

As far as rubbing, my post and the two I quoted were a talking (I think) about here:

Thats where the intake pipe runs up from the bumper and passes into the engine compartment.

so you just tie it around the CAI wih the velcro?

No. You see the the lip where it's circled? The tube is very close to that lip. You put padding over the lip to keep the tube from rubbing metal-to-metal.

I used the softer, "furry" side of a velcro strip as padding, but any padding should help.

besides the part where it rubs the metal. the filter also hits the foglight housing area. there is no way around the foglight rubbing from what i can see. it WILL make a little dent in your filter, but wont puncture it or anything, not a big deal.

id say the V2 intake is more likely to create a rubbing issue because the lower section of it is so much wider

Yep I installed mine today And ended up denting it on purpose just to plug the foglight back in, its pretty much unavoidable. Anyways like I said earlier, today I just had a big long strip of sticky velcro and cleaned the area and basically just stuck it around that lip and everything should be good.

i read some where on here that did some hammering of the edges of the hole where the intake tube goes. i might do that then put a cushion cut to make sure it never rips through the cushion

Did anyone have to cut their intake shorter for their aem v2 to fit. The filter doesn't fit near the fog lights. Its too big

You are correct it does not fit well with the fog lights, however it will fit. The foglight will rub against the filter though and dent it, that is how I have mine installed and many others have theirs that way.
