How much have people paid to install a CAI on a TL?

Would like to know how much have people paid to get their CAI's installed, just to run an average, I understant every city is different.
I am in Houston and got quoted $528 for the AEM CAI and installation with a bypass valve and $478 without the bypass.
What do you think? It is for a 2005 TL

Seems high. I would expect 300 max, but is the bumper removal completely necessay if they have a lift?

I installed mine without removing the bumper. Don't pay someone to do this. This is very easy to do.

Well like I said I'm a nooby so I want to reserch first to see what is a good and bad price, that way I can decide if to do it there or keep shopping around. In regards to the bumper I really don't know if you can install without removing but I now see people have done it. I thought it was necessary since the pipe and filter go way down to sit behind the wheel well.

Even the instructions don't call for removing the bumper.

The reason people remove the bumper is because it makes the job so much easier and it is a breeze to remove the bumper. there is a video of how to do it

If i did it, you can do it!! There are a couple of threads with videos of the bumper removal and CAI installation. That's what I used. Take your time and review the videos. Good luck!

I would help you, but I'm busy at college. You should learn how too even if you're mechanically challenged. Experience is what you gain once you have failed. Now that is truly priceless.

Do it yourself, its easy bro. I did mine on my own without removing the bumper and the car wasnt on a lift. Took me about an hour, it was my first stab at anything modswise. I only used the instructions that came with it.

If you have to pay $500 it wouldnt even be worth the performance gains IMO.
For that price you could order the P2R tbs and thermal gaskets and do it all at once. Then u will notice a substantial performance increase.

Give It a shot and get to know your car a bit better and besides, there are many instruction videos out there for all kinds of mods. Good luck!

Ding!, Ding!, Ding!

We have a winner!!

This is the solution: Find someone local who has some of the skills you lack. Cost of some time and a 6-pack and you'll get some experience.

We had 3 members installed a CAI in a TL-S. Learned a little about installing CAI's. A great time with other members. It's not as hard as it seems. The bumper removal is very easy if you go that route. Place it on a blanket or something to prevent scratches. Good luck........

It's a tough crowd around here sometimes. Find a buddy with minimal skills. I didn't take my bumper off but getting the stock box was interesting and would have been easier without the bumper.

The first mod I learned to do was the intake. I would do it for free if u live in NJ. should cost 0-0 dollars b/c its sooo easy to do. Easiest mod, do not have to remove the front bumper. If your going to spend 500 get the J pipe installed. or pre cats.
