How hot does the cold air get?

To those with cold air...after good while in city with a good amount of traffic, how cold or hot is the pipe (closest to the Tb) get? This is on a regular day (75 - 80 degrees)

Is it still cold to the tocuh, or does it get luke warm, or a bit warmer than you hope it would be?

I'm asking because I currently made a short ram with a ram tube that gets direct air from the front lower grill, and after some city driving with lots of stops I opened up the hood and the tube was a bit warmer than luke warm. I'm wondering if that's the same case as most of the CAI's.

after driving around a while, if u open up the hood right after u park, the tube is hot to the touch. it's hot, but not hot enough to burn you. i read some post that was saying the air travels through the tube so fast, assuming you are not sitting idle in traffic, it won't affect the air temp but on a 75 degree day that is not the optimal air temp.

there was some dude on here a week ago or so that put a temperature gauge next to the throttle body and then next to the filter down low. i can't remember what post it was but the temp down low at the filter was much cooler.

With the CAI, the temperature reading from the IAT sensor is around 100~120 degree F. That is when the car is moving. When the car is not moving, such as when you are sitting in traffic, it goes up to around 140 ~ 150. With a short ram, it's generally 20 degree higher.

Hrmm, alright. So I thought it was just because it was a SRI. I assumed the cold air setup would get cold enough air to keep the tubing even warm to cold, but I guess I was wrong.

Where would I be able to get a temperature gauge from to measure temps?

Just a thought...but would wrapping the cai in heat tape help at all? Even if it is only a couple degrees difference.

I hope this works...personally i like the way heat wrap looks under the hood on exhaust and what not, adds a "true performance" look to it. Once i get my CAI ill have to really look into finding something to keep the heat out and the cold in.

The insulation definitely keeps my intake tube cool to the touch even after long periods of idling in so cal, there is no longer any heatsoak effect.

also. invest in thermoblok spacers. best 100$ you can spend. keeps the actual CAI pipe alot , lot cooler to the touch IMO. i actually felt a lil more response too. i just didnt see it worth it to dyno it when i got them put in last week. I am waiting for a possible TL-S cam swap.
