High flow exhaust on TypeS

So I was just comparing parts from the normal TL and the TL TypeS.

The TL TypeS claims to have a high flow exhaust system. After checking out all the parts, I realized that the pipes after the cat including resonators and muffler are all the same. The only parts that are different are the cats itself. This leads me to think that the TypeS already have highflow cats like the e-shft pro cats.

I was also comparing the cylinder heads. The TypeS cylinder head has different intake valves, valve springs, and gasket. Everything else is the same. Acura also claims that the TypeS have hollow camshaft for weight saving,

The block between TL and TL TypeS seems to be identical. The main difference between the 3.2L and 3.5L is different crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder heads with slighter larger intake valves, and high flow cat. There is also an oil jet found in the TypeS block that is not found on the normal TL. The TypeS also have an external automatic transmission cooler.

The intake manifold and cylinder head cover is the same on both TL and TL TypeS.

How do you know the mufflers are the same? I know mine sounds awesome, different than a regulkar tl and I find it hard to believe that the cats are the cause. I would like to find out more about the cats on my TL-S before I consider the procats any more.

From comparing part numbers, it seems lile the whole exhaust system (gasket, mufflers, resonators, bolts) are all the same except for the Catylic Converter. I am not sure if the muffler is different since the TypeS has 2 tips on each muffler and the TL only has one. However they seem to have the same number.

I believe the main reason why the exhaust sounds different is due to the bigger displacment on the 3.5L.

lookinco any idea on the cost of the cat from acura? I mean if the cat is high flow and it does roughly what the procat does and is cheaper that $1200 it could be a great mod for us 04-06's

According to Acura's site, the front and rear pre cat is $874.32 each. The 3rd cat is 511.04.

For 04-07 TL, the front pre cat is 336.77, the rear pre cat is 344.39. The 3rd cat is 234.69.

So total for the 07 TypeS cat comes to $2259.68. If you order online, they usually have about 20% to 25% discount which is around $1694.76. At this price, the pro cat is still much cheaper.
