So I'm guessing the expensive parts of a brake aren't the rotors or the pads, but rather the calipers themselves, right?

I've seen brake sets like Brembo go for $1000+ but that site only has them for ~$150. Explain?

Why do you think you need calipers?? Typically, you should only need pads or pads and rotors. Do you have any friends that can lend you a hand because it sounds like you might be biting off too much with your possible lack of knowledge. You do not want to snap a bolt or have the car drop on you. Do you have tools, jack stands a jack (not the one that came with the car).

make sure to resurface the rotor and bed them in correctly.

Andy... Sorry. I thought you were the OP... thinking that you also had to replace your calipers. Made me wander if the guy knew what he was getting into.

For your question, pads and rotors are not that much $$$. Depending on quality and markup and good rotor can go for $80-$300 each and a set of pads for $60 to $150. Shops make a killing on brakes. You are correct, Calipers and also master cylinders would be the larger ticket items on a brake overall. However, they are not typically needed.

as long as it is not below the minimum thickness. Might be more cost effective to get a set of decent after market rotors. Not sure what the cost of resurfacing is these days. I have not bothered with that for a long time.

I have just replaced my pads with no need to make any rotor modifications many times.

I'd highly recommend the Powerslot/STOPTECH slotted rotors and STOPTECH Performance pads. They are the best bang for the buck, but not necessarily the cheapest.

05 TL I assume. A/T or M/T?

Lets start at the beginning.....What is the problem?

- Worn pads front and/or rear?
- Worn rotors front and/or rear?
- Vibration front and/or rear?
- Noise front and/or rear?
- Budget?
- Brembo front brakes (6-speed manual or Type-S only)?

Answer all the specifics of those questions and I can get you where you need to be for the least amount of money.
