Hawk Brake Pads-Noise
Hawk Brake Pads-Noise
Alright so I installed these pads about two months ago, and just recently have been having a horrible squeal when I slow down to a stop. It is embarassing. I have had two people say "time for new brakes huh". Why do they do it. The stopping power is awesome and the brake dust is considerable less then the stock pads (actually it just looks less becuase it appears almost redish in color)

if not, here is your answer:

6Speed yea same with me. Sometime they wont do it at all. I think i t may depend on the temp out side or something. i have noticed with less humidiity in the air they are not making a sound.

There is an industrial park right by my house on Trooper Rd (off of 422), there are many open areas to run your car. I did it on a sunday afternoon around 4pm. Did it for about 20 minutes and only ran into one other car....which coincedentally was doing the same thing I was.

did the noise go away after that?
No, I did this right after I installed them. There was no sou nd till a few weeks later and it wont stop now...but it is not all the time. It is only happening when I am slowing down from about 20mph and it is humid outside.
i installed them about 2 weeks ago as well and the stoping power is awesome but when i drive around town around 5 mph they sing
i really hate it i may go back to stock pads. It seems like it only happens when it is warm out

mine had begun to squeak like this after about a week (after they were so quiet for the first!) two nights ago i took some backroads home and 'lit them on fire' so to speak... no squeaks since!... maybe they needed a re-bed.
-i noitced before they squeaked more in humid weather.
-i have seen comments that these pads stop better than the brembo pads...i do not think so at all...the brembos had much more stopping power...
-the reduction in brake dust is spectacular-

Keep in mind that all brake pads will release dust. A softer pad that stops better will probably release more dust. It's sorta like a grippy summer tire that wears quickly. The less dust it releases, the less braking power the pads will have. At least that is my understanding.

^^agreed- they do need to be warmed up....
AHHHH i just installed my stock Brembos again i will never go back to those Hawk pads to much low mph noise. they do work well but the bite on the stock brembos is better. At least the intial bite. I will say on the hawk pads no dust for 2 weeks on the rims i will miss that. but I can not take the squeak when driving around town and people yelling get your breaks fixed
. That is embrassing
I will save the hawks when i go road racing

I purchased the hawk ceramics for my automatic and haven't had any issues. Only thing I did was bed them in pretty well. Didn't use any of that "no-squeal" fluid on the pads that others have used.....
i have the same squeaking issue!! i have the HPS pad for my AT..and it squeaks like hell when it's warm WHILE i'm not applying brake from 0 to 60 KM/HR....i even changed my OEM rotor to powerslot rotor..it did the same squeaking....it really pisses me off!
For those with the Hawk pads and noise issue, did you properly bed in the new pads? I did and after around two months, I developed a high pitched squeaking when I apply the brakes lightly (6MT). I bedded my pads properly (rotors turned blue) and had two months noise free.
I might bed the pads in again to see if the noise goes away. Just wondering for those without noise - what did you do aside from installing them to get rid of the noise?

Thats weird because Hawk HPS (if thats the compound you got) are suppose to be virtually noise free. No one complains about the Sentra pads being loud.
Also I thought you only bed in rotors, not pads?

i installed the HPS pad on my OEM rotors..it squeaked like crazy...the problem is it squeak so much when the brake is NOT applying...
so i switched to powerslot rotors cuz i thought my wrapped OEM rotors was making the noise...
now the powerslot made the same noise and i bedded the pad with the powerslot already....
i will try and bed it again later when i'm going home next week...

As stated above, the objective of the bed-in process is to deposit an even layer of brake pad material, or transfer layer , on the rubbing surface of the rotor disc. Note the emphasis on the word even, as uneven pad deposits on the rotor face are the number one, and almost exclusive cause of brake judder or vibration.
