Group Buy for JnR ECU - Dyno's/Gains (12/23); Prices Posted (1/7)
I am debating if I should become a Vendor here on Acurazine. Hence I wanted to start a feeler thread for the JnR ECU. Pending on the interest on this thread, I will become a Vendor and start the Group buy.
The ECU will come with some options. Knock Monitor, RDX Injectors + Pigtails, Custom Fuel Pump.
Lets get some interest and then if the mods permit me, I will post how much this is going to cost you guys.
EDIT: Am posting this new thread as the previous one by swoosh was/got deleted.
The graphs are on a OEM 3.2 (Base) Motor....
1> 4th gear pull. Stock ECU. Primary cats in place.
Mods are: Jpipe, Third cat delete, Greddy catback, A filterless v2 intake
2> 3th gear pull. Stock ECU. Primary cats in place.
Mods are: Jpipe, Third cat delete, Greddy catback, A filterless v2 intake
3> 3th gear pull. Primary cats in place.
Mods are: JNR ECU, Jpipe,Third cat delete, Greddy catback, A filterless v2 intake
So from the ECU on a STOCK car with some bolt ons you can see 20WHP/23WTQ

Guys, the other thread was closed because 1.) it wasn't by a vendor and 2.) it was set up like a group by (if we get x people the price will be y) and 3.) it discussed specific pricing.
So let's keep this as a FEELER; an interest thread. Either you're interested or you're not.
Put your name on a list (copy and paste into your reply):
0. ExampleName, '07 Base

oh man rodney...PROCEED WITH CAUTION. lets not forget the turbo kit group buy feeler thread that had over 60 names and only 3 people actually paid.
i guarentee once people see the total price of all those items included,....well, lets just leave it at that for now.
if your not committed to this potential gb, then gtfo

I'm going to 'guess' this is going to 'cost' more than '$1100' so people that don't have enough 'money' don't put your 'name' on the 'list'.

A person would be very pleased with the J&R ECU once it was mapped to be at the cutting edge of the ignition timing. When I say cutting edge, I mean encountering detonation periodically (for N/A, not FI engines) in all parts of the map (including wot and part throttle, hot weather and cold weather) to be assured of being at the highest timing possible. The N/A J-Engine is extremely sensitive to ignition timing. Meaning that if the timing drops a little, the power DROPS a lot. With my ghetto tuning via no knock sensor and relocated IAT sensor (among my other many mods as groundwork), I stay at the cutting edge of the ignition timing map. It did make a big difference to me. I feel that my performance has been bumped up a notch or two by my ghetto tuning.
It is not really what I did to increase the timing. I just allowed my car to use the fullest timing possible from the oem map (which is plenty or too much).
The TL is equipped with an oem ECU that has the potential to offer TOO MUCH timing to the stock TL. If a stock TL (versus my lightweight version) was to run with the fullest possible timing, it would have massive detonation all the time. We see what happens when the stock TL does get a bit too close sometimes (see link below) under light-to-mid throttle.
Valve Chatter/Pinging/Knocking in 2007 TypeS (click here)
When I was preparing for my Nitrous Methanol Injection System (NMI) (click here), I made some mods to allow me to run with the fullest oem timing possible to assist burning the methanol. But, I discovered that it was great for n/a also.
To get the maximum timing from the oem map via my ghetto tuning, I lie to the computer. If the ecu sees any knocking from the knock sensor, it will retard the timing for a long time (approx 15 minutes). After the 15 minutes, the ecu will just partially restore the timing back to what it was beforehand. Furthermore, I would be a bit paranoid by *if* the knock sensor is picking-up rattling from something and making the ecu think that it is detonation.
Also, the ecu heavily depends on the IAT sensor to decide how much timing to give the engine. I feel this is one of the primary methods by which the the Ultimate Cooling Mod (click here) works. IF the underhood temps are lowered, the IAT sensor will run cooler (not the intake air itself, but the whole sensor). When the IAT sensor gets warmer, the ecu drops the timing.
These two things, a warm IAT sensor and knocking, is what makes the oem ecu drop the timing. If the ecu thought that there was absolutely no detonation and the air was cooler, then the engine would receive the fullest timing possible from the oem map..... which is a lot of timing. I stay perfectly at the cutting edge of detonation all the time (part throttle, wot, cold weather, hot weather).
The PCV Delete and EGR Delete slightly bumped my performance too. So for anyone doing the J&R ECU, I recommend this too. It bumped my performance mainly at light-to-mid throttle. I feel that it did bump my performance up a very small notch at wot.
Plus for the 5AT people, install new 3rd/4th Pressure Switches for the 5AT. If a person was to do all of these mods (cutting edge ignition timing, PCV Delete, EGR Delete, 3rd/4th Pressure Switches, and UCM) after getting the J&R ECU, this person would be one happy camper if my experiences extrapolate over to them.
My car totally freaks me out now after these changes. Whenever I am not scared zhitless by it, I am laughing my azz off by what my car just pulled-off. Sometimes it makes me happy to just drive the wife's RL.... not having to deal with the hyper-ness of my car.

i will eventually read through all that stuff. but just thinking from the average TL modders perspective. Most people (like myself) are fully bolted (got the Hi Flow pre cats sitting around waiting to be installed) and might not be looking to go supercharged or turbo'd until later on. For a person who is fully bolted and with the right tune what is the MAX hp and torque expected to gain. BTW 3.2 L Automatic -____-

Fellas, lets not get to specific about HP claims.
Every car is different. Everyone has different mods.
you will need to take this and your car to a dyno to get it tuned.
which will bring additional cost.
depending on your specific car, you can gain 15-30hp.

That's exactly what got the earlier thread closed.
Look at Champs post earlier. It puts you in the ballpark cost-wise.

All the 'numbers' you see about expected gains are going to be speculation. You may see others getting 20whp, while you only get 12. Like Justin said, it depends on what mods you currently have and the tuner. One tuner will be able to extract more power than another, and with more mods, there is more to tune (usually).
I will say this: For a full bolt on Type S 6MT, I'd expect somewhere in the range of 12-15whp peak, and 8-10 throughout the band. I'd expect around 15-20wtq peak, with locally higher amounts (25-30) in the midrange. Think of it as "JPro." For a 5AT Type S/Base 6MT, I'd take 15% off these numbers, and a Base 5AT 20%. I know this sounds like a lot, but if you do the math, 20% of 20wtq is 4, so it makes sense (to me at least).
* I will not be held responsible for this claim. Individual numbers will vary. Offer stands for a limited time only. Please visit your local vendor for more information

Ok, I read your first post wrong so. But it's kind of a tough situation because we know that the original price for just the ECU was approx. $1300. I've got to imagine that with all of the extra's, even with a group buy, the price will be quite a bit higher. So to eliminate alot of people saying they want one and not paying and/or maybey sparking interest for others; there really has to be some kind of price indicator.

Original price of the ECU was $1400...the Group Buy price will be disclosed ONCE Rodney becomes a Vendor on here.
With prices of the options, I have seen Rodney beat the lowest prices in the market....So you will still be getting a good deal....
TheChamp mentioned a ballpark....and we need to put some serious buyers on the list....
This ECU is awesome and I bet all the FI people can vouch for it....

This is difficult. I can see Rodney's perspective that the cost of being a vendor could be a huge burden to his bottom line. But without that, he can't mention price.
As Bert said, people signed up in huge numbers for the turbo kit. When the price was announced which was no higher than it is today, all but 3 of us caved. At that time, J&R has become a vendor.
The price here can vary quite a bit if the options of injectors and pump are added or subtracted.

You trying to 'weed out some' and 'mayeb' gain more 'inerest' with others will make this thread closed. I already posted a hypothetical price. A 'two-hundred' savings is better than nothing-- stop posting in this thread please if you're trying to get cheaper.

usually group buy's save you 10-15% usually....see anything....
$1000 exhaust for $850 in group buys (Greddy) ....$1300 BBK to $1050 (XLR8)....
so this is the same way....expect to save 10-15% of the retail....
you cant really expect a 20-25%...even thow that would be AWESOME lol...

Look, I'm not tryng to st an arguement or triyng to get anything cheaper. But like many I'm sure, up to $1200 I wouldn't hesitate to sign up. At $1800 I'd be hesitant. And unlike many, if I put my name on the list I commited and would not bail. So leave it at that.

To not sway the thread into another direction, I'm not trying to start a argument either. You can 'trust me'-- don't worry.
I won't let this thread close swoosh even if I had to sign up as a vendor for J&R lol

My understanding is the group buy is for just the ECU. If want to buy additional stuff there maybe a discount on that as well, but you are not forced to buy injectors or other items you don't need or want.
