Going through a high mileage 08 tl
Going through a high mileage 08 tl
Hey everybody Tia for any help. I recently picked up a 08 tl with 211k miles. Runs great, everyhring works except for navi. Just needed a serpentine belt tensioner. It has a few oil leaks, havent pinpointed all yet, needs valve cover gaskets for sure. Was gonna do $200 aisin water pump/timing belt kit but is p2r standard kit $300 worth it? I dont mind putting money into it, I wanna make it last. I was figuring vtec solenoid gasket, front crank seal, timing kit with valve adjustment after. What else should I be doing when I have all that stuff off. Should I be replacing oil pump? Also gonna do 3x3 with dw-1, paper filter, and which switches should i be replacing again?
i would do an Aisin kit from RockAUto, NOT AMazon, NOT ebay, and call it..

with the Amz $189.99 DNJ TBK285WP kit
with the $299.99 P2R TBK002 timing belt kit below, you will find that P2R's kit exchanges the DNJ timing belt with a Gates TB (read the DNJ kit amazon reviews for the reason, lol) & their $99.99 proprietary (red arrows) TB tensioner. That alone is 33% of the cost of the whole P2R TB kit.

In addition, It's interesting that they provide a proprietary stainless idler sleeve with an OEM Honda timing bolt?
I have just reused the factory original idler sleeve & bolt on all my TB replacements in the past?

Otherwise, all the other parts are DNJ.
Personally, I will continue with the reliable Aisin kits, as recommended above, until proven otherwise.
