FlashPro HonData?

These ECU re-flashing / replacements were heavily discussed in the TSX community, but I haven't stumbled across any threads on the 3G TL as yet....is that a thing for the TL community?

Yes. You can find more information about it at www.hondata.com

It's been released for the 07-08 TL for over a year now.

I purchased mine and had it tuned thru Vit tuned online. He offers a Flash Pro + E-Tuning package for $740.

The Flash Pro alone is $695. For $45 extra you can be fully street tuned.

OK So Hondata is available.

I've never done an ECU replacement on any car though, is it truly WORTH it for those of you who've done it?

Tuning is easily the single most important mod you can do, yet people rarely do it. There is too much cachet in buying expensive hard parts that don't do any good unless they are optimized properly.

I've seen maroons with built bottom end Supras still blow them up. They blow them up running 12s and say they were making too much power even for the built motor..um no, it wasn't tuned.

Tuning should be a top priority for everyone.

Seriously? There are at least 4-5 threads on this.

Depends who you ask, tbh. Some people will say it's not worth it & some will say it is. A protune completely smooths out the powerband, gets rid of the dip @ VTEC, and will add anywhere from 5-25whp depending on mods and how aggressive the tune is. I've seen 25whp on the V6 Accord, hence the reason I'm saying it. On average, I'd say you will see 10-15whp. A stock V6 Accord gained 10whp from FlashPro alone. Xenocron tuning ftw.

Get Flashpro if you're going to spend money on intake, exhaust, jpipe, & pcd. You'll be having more airflow over the stock ECU. Tuning these basic mods will only get you better gas mileage and healthy engine status.

I never bought one after reading a post that a user made saying he only gained 10hp across the RPM band. While that is something, it wasnt enough to convince me.

Why are people so obsessed with how much horsepower gains the FlashPro gives? With our cars, you will not gain a ton of horsepower because we cannot tune the exhaust side of the vehicle, only the intake side. That is why guys with K series make stupid power with a simply tune because they are true DOHC, whereas the J32 and J35 are dual SOHC which means one cam on each cylinder head.

The most important part of the flashpro is the difference in drivability of the car after its tuned. Everything comes together with a tune, the car feels more responsive, the drivetrain is much more smooth and loads of other nice features like engine monitoring with intake temps, knock sensor counts, vtec engagement becomes way more smooth, you can set launch control, and even increase redline like I did by another 200rpm.

Again, its not all about the horsepower with this mod. If you are a true enthusiast you will appreciate the engineering and added bonus of the Hondata FlashPro.

People using 91 octane will only gain driveability and reliability. not whp but it's all worth it for a knock free car

Hey thanks for the information everyone.

I don't think I'll be doing very many mods at all, so I guess I was wondering if the FlashPro was worth it on an otherwise stock setup.

I'm getting 'no' in terms of increased 'power' which is OK for me, this is going to be my 1st V6 and my highest HP car to date anyway, so I'm not sure I should have any more for awhile lol, afraid of what my driving record might get to look like already....

But jokes aside, I'm hearing 'yes' in terms of just really nice performance across the entire spectrum and smoothing out the vtech lag/kick.

Thanks again

This is not true at all. It'll make additional power on any octane, provided it has an efficient tune. The difference between 91 and 93 is minuscule. Hondata wouldn't release a product that doesn't make any additional power on the highest readily available octane gas in their home state.

HONDATA includes maps with the purchase of the HONDATA FP. There really isn't a need to get a custom tune on top of the tune HONDATA has made.

AccordFlex is spot on! I have FlashPro plus the ECU conversion (04 TL) and the improvements in driveablilty and the smoothness of the power delivery is worth the $$$.

Nice info, who or what is VIT though? Are they in the Vendor section?
I think if I do it, that will be the route I got, after spending 695 it'd be foolish not to have it tuned by someone who actually knows wtf they're doing for only a few $ more!

There's one there, last one on the list KN_TL posted, for a stock 08 manual type s.

I wouldn't use any of those. I believe Vit gives you a starter calibration that you use to start tuning.

Sucks enough than none. The whole point of base maps is so that you can take your untuned car, pop a base map that already had small timing/fuel, etc done so that you can safely get to the tuner shop (without WOT) and get the car tuned. Keep in mind they are starting points as well.

In FlashPro Manager hit the New Calibration (or Ctrl+N) in the upper left, and you should get a list of all the base calibrations. It also depends on the initial install of FlashPro Manager. I didn't bother showing all the different calibrations for all the cars that can use FlashPro, I only loaded the TL/Accord base maps.

Hey so stupid question to those that have done this: I have an '06 MT and I'm a bit confused as to the logistics of installing the new ECU and required harness. Would I take both the harness and ECU to an Acura dealer to install both and then reprogram the immobilizer? Will a dealer do this install? And then I drive it to a tuner with the Flashpro and tune it? Or am I missing something?

^i am under the impression, that all you want the dealer to do is program the vin to the ECU.

so, YOU install type-s ECU in dealers parking lot. (call ahead to get you a scheduled appointment, and ask for them to pair the ECU with vin.)
after you install the ECU, have them pair the VIN with the ECU.

you now have a working type-s ECU in your non type-s car.
I would go home for the next part.
installing flashpro and harness, which comes with base maps so that if you wanted to get it tuned by a tuner, you could drive it to a tuning shop.
