First engine mod

So i pretty much took care of all exterior mods i wanted to do- figured get them out of the way real quick. Now i want to start working under the hood. I want to know what is a good first engine mod? Im not looking for anything crazy, maybe better acceleration. And def not something that is only going to make it sound loud like some civics i see driving around. Any help would be appreciated.

Most people would do either a Cold Air intake, or some sort of exhaust mod ( J pipe, catback)

Do you have a budget?

You can go with either route, Even if you do end up getting an exhaust you wont sound like a civic or any other 4 cyl with exhaust. Our V6's have a deeper sound.

I'd say get some recommendations on what Cold air intake to do.

ya know there are billions of threads just like this one.

if you take the time to read some past threads, you might get some ideas on what to spend your money on.

Dont get a CAI or a TBS, go with the J pipe it will give you the best gains.

CAI is a waste of money. J-pipe, for sure.

Could always get a cheap eBay intake with a good K&N filter... All intakes are the same. J pipes are good too

^^ Or delete the stock intake resonator, and not loose any low end power.

Would the j pipe make a difference without modifying the rest of the exhaust?

nothing is going to really noticeably improve your acceleration without spending thousands. but my first was a Cold air intake probably like most people. thats a great first mod, not too expensive either.

Says the guy that had a J-pipe for a week then took it off.

I think I understand you now kingkong, if you're not doing it, nobody else should. I bet 2 weeks ago when you had your J-pipe you would have been saying "get a j-pipe." But for some reason you change your mind and the TL is now fast enough for you and nobody else should mod their TL's because you're no longer doing it.

It's actually really expensive for what it is. A $150 noise maker. It's not a good first mod for anyone.

Start with a Jpipe or PCDs. From there do your research.
