FEELER THREAD: Group Buy for JnR TURBO KIT - Customizable

Since am almost on the verge of becoming a Vendor am thinking of putting my TURBO kit on sale for a Group Buy price and allow the customer some options...

Everyone knows what the Turbo kit is capable of. You will get past 400hp with the kit and a tune alone. On an average your looking at gains of 150-170hp without any/much modifications.

Since I cannot post an exact price I will be posting ballpark numbers. Once I become a Vendor, will post the exact prices and get this GB going....

Here are couple options/customizations you can do:

1> Semi Kit (SK): Comes with all the custom piping, Intercooler, everyting you need EXCEPT: Turbo, Wastegate, BOV. You can buy any Turbo/Wastegate/BOV of your liking and install this.
Price Ballpark: ~2900

2> Semi Kit + JnR ECU (SRE): SK + JnR ECU
Price Ballpark: ~4200

3> Complete Kit (CK): Completely plug and play. It will include everything you need to get the Turbo installed
Price Ballpark: ~5700

4> Complete Kit + JnR ECU (CKE): CK + JnR ECU.
Price Ballpark: ~7000

I have put down a rough estimate of the price. The price will NOT be over the amount that I have mentioned. Looking for people who are seriously interested. Price will include Paypal + Shipping fees. In your post please DO NOT discuss about the price as this will lead the thread in a wrong direction.

Looking for ~5 orders to get this going. If you are interested please put ur name down in the following format:

1> name - 2007 Type S 6MT - CKE.

Lets get the list going:
1>
2>
3>
4>
5>

If you are looking just for the ECU please refer to this thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/group-buy-jnr-ecu-dynos-gains-12-23-%3B-prices-posted-1-7-a-841554/

Thanks

Might be interested in this over just the ECU. Would the semi kit with the ECU come without the aem fic then and if so is the price adjusted to not include the fic?

The semi kit looks too discounted to me. Half price for everything but the turbo and BOV seems like too much of a discount.

Just to make sure I'm reading this right... (if I am easy fix)

When you mean no modification, that would mean I can keep stock exhaust and still run the turbo? The turbo takes over the cats and j pipe am I right?

Want to make this more clear for the 'noobs' and as I'm not 100% on the answers

As mentioned by KN_TL, its not advisable....3" single exit catback is what most people end up getting....

I am pretty sure most if not all of us with the turbo have dual exiting catbacks.

To me personally, if you can't bodywork the other opening to disappear the empty slot would not look good.

^^^ agreed...i put it completely wrong....

i wanted to say you get max gains from a single 3" exit....but yeah there is a difference of what 5hp ? between the 2 setups ?

either way i do agree the bumper looks weird with one 3" tip and other tip opening without a tip....

What about drivetrain?

I had mine up to 300hp and the OEM clutch couldnt handle that much horse. And at the time I couldnt find a decent clutch upgrade. Acura wanted $2500 for a clutch. And the 5 speed auto cant handle much more then stock either. What about the axels ?

Just curious, because these cars were not desgned for 400hp.

Its not a new Camaro. I think 350hp would be great. BUT ETC ETC.

Rodney has a twin disc clutch to handle that and more.

CM also has a kit available as well.

You need to catch up on your reading. 350hp has been exceeded LONG ago.

^^^ I think i will leave that for the Turbo guys/Rodney to answer....

All i know is Bert (libert69) is AT and running stock everything on the AT+axles....he did blow his motor up trying to push the limits....

so i think the tranny + axles will do fine....

For MT, I know they do offer a clutch....so yeah, i think the drivetrain will do fine....plus if you want, you can tune it to just 400 odd hp compared to what some of these guys are running (450+)

But yeah its a great way to make power without compromising reliability....

MTs / ATs will handle 400whp until you try putting it all down to the pavement.

That's when you start running into problems with your clutch, axles and drivetrain

Thinking about it.

Custom exhaust would cost roughly $600 plus ECU and kit. I'm wondering if meth kit, injectors are necessary. Have to try to re-read the turbo thread.

I'm trying to get to 350whp to begin with than just sit it at 400whp till one day I have the dough to upgrade somethings and just sit it at 500whp.

You will have to go the FI route to get there....

A SuperCharger + ECU will put u around 360-370....I dont think you will be able to get past 400 with the SC....
A turbo + ECU will put u around 430-440....

So there on you can keep adding some components and climb ur way into the 500's....

I would highly suggest bigger Injectors + fuel pump....This way you wont have to upgrade those components down the line....

Says who? I do it almost everyday. Any issues are going to be with abuse, slamming gears with a sticky clutch and launching on slicks. Posting BS like this with zero clue whether what you are saying is true scares people away.
If you have no idea what you are talking about don't post it.

If you are getting the full turbo kit, it should include the injectors to match whatever target HP you order.

The meth kit is not absolutely needed until you run out of octane.

I've love to see it!

I enjoy seeing Rodney's updates / progress. I've followed the turbo / clutch / ECU threads since day one and it's very exciting on the advancements and sheer R&D that has gone into these cars .. it's simply amazing.

I apologize my first post was a little vague .. I think the MT / AT transmission will hold this kind of power just fine .. I'm just a little concerned about this kind of power / torque with good traction in gears like 1st / 2nd.

After reading through 04accordcpe's progress threads / posts, these transmissions / axles aren't anything to brag about when you show it some grip. His car had 50whp less and no where near the torque these new turbo kits are chucking out and he's gone through his fair share of problems.

Hi speed, have you taken your 6 speed to the track yet?

^^^ I am fully bolted on and i spin 1st and 2nd on my AT....its holding up just fine....I have an 05 and even after the Tranny vows LOL....

I know 04accordcpe went thro a lot of problems, maybe he doesnt know how to shift

but yeah, the reason I wanted to correct you is coz i post like your, against 20 good reviews will repel the buyers....i tend to post very accurate info in Group Buy/Sale threads as a single bad review (genuine is fine, but misinformed is what worries me) can really hurt the Vendor specially JnR (Rodney) who is an upcoming guy and very talented....

well either way, i will post the vid i was talking about when i receive it from him....gimme couple days

in the meantime, lets get couple sales going....

I remember in the turbo thread that the turbo takes over the cats and j pipe am I right? Or am I going crazy?

I'm think im going to pass for now and plan on getting it in August or this summer like I originally planned.

^^^ the best part about this is you can break it into parts....

get the piping and all now at a GB price....then you can get the Turbo+BOV+Wastegate of your liking later

But yeah the kit will include until the 3rd cat area (assuming) from where you will have a custom exhaust...

So basically it takes all the cats and j pipe area? Thinking on just upgrading the piping on the OEM exhaust to 3" with a dynomax resonator.

I have tracked my car, a few road course races and a bunch of scca events. I know many people mean drag strip when they say track, but this is something I am not interested in. I did run DR's for the first 3k of running the turbo because I was doing a lot of roll races with V8's

I didn't. I really need to get a go pro or atleast a windshield mount for a little camera. I tried using a headrest mount for an old camera but the video came out bad.

As far as axles are concerned. If you plan to run slicks and make traction one of goals for ripping through 1st gear, then you will break every oem axle that you put on this car with the turbo kit. If your spinning 1st then your not going to break your axle.

Dont ever forget that this is fwd car and tearing through 1st gear will never be the same as rwd. BUT with the turbo, this car is a highway monster. At 400whp I was putting 2-3 car lengths on stock and lightly modded (intake/exhaust) srt8 chargers from 60/70 mph rolls up to 140.

Some will say, "whats the point of spinning through 1st and even babying the car in 1st gear when your pushing so much power"...if thats the case then you can order a set of upgraded axles from The Drive Shaft Shop and have them made to handle however much hp you want to make.

As far as high hp and the auto trans is concerned, there is always some slight hesitation on my part to keep pushing the limits. At 400whp the trans shifts fine for over 10,000 miles. Thats better then some stock TL's lol. Again, your driving style plays a big role on lifespan of the trans with the turbo. Using sport shift is highly recommended for your 2-3 and 3-4 shift under wot in the auto. If you want details then spend a few hours reading the turbo thread. (you should read that whole thread anyway if you plan to buy this kit)

Lets talk exhaust for a min. Everyone says a 3" exhaust is the minimum for this turbo setup. I agree. However, if you guys remember kikazz's car (the turbo type s that made 560whp) he was running the atlp quads with the turbo kit. The turbo kit downpipe is 3" and they used a reducer to attach the downpipe to the atlp exhaust. I saw that car in person and it sounded fu*kin sick. Who knows, Im sure he would of picked up a few more hp with a larger exhaust but did he really need it? I say no. That car had full boost by 2.5k rpms and spooled so fast.

The kit takes over the primary cats, j pipe and 3rd cat. The downpipe has a flange on it to bolt up to whatever exhaust you have on the car.

I like how these threads open up as discussions rather than "buy". Any questions should be called to Rodney himself or leave him PM. If this still lasts til Income Tax month, I'd love to grab one.

Semi-Kit
Does just having the SK affect HP or TRQ?

Complete Kit
What ECU managament does it come with? since the other packages have ECU seperate..

if we do get the ECU without turbo yet what mapping will it have? and if we get the CK aftewards how difficult will it be to get the ECU mapped?

also how hard is the DIY? from threads it sounds like a two day job but not sure if it is easier now

^^^ Hey Feji,

The semi kit will NOT work without a turbo....you will have to buy a turbo....so for instance if you wanna get a different turbo than what the kit comes with out have an option to do that....

you will need an ECU with the turbo kit....either FIC or JnR....The complete kit does not come with an ECU....

DIY shudnt be too hard, but since your in Philly, I suggest a drive down to FL where Rodney is at....he will help you install it and tune it for a decent price so you can get the most out of your turbo....

If you are asking about DIY on the turbo, I did it and it was a lot of fun but I took my time so I don't know what it would take if you hit it hard. Rodney will supply maps that will get you on the road.

I have a thread on my install:

What size/make is the turbo that would come with a complete kit? If its in KN_TL's thread, I apologize, I havent gotten to read it yet. Dead set on the ECU, but now the semi kit has my interest too. Best part is I just bought a house, and have a garage finally that I could actually undertake all this.

It's not in that thread and is a 62mm Precision Turbo.
